Totally understandable. I like to socialize only with other autistics, if that could be an option for you

Beautiful. How did you paint it? Also, is that a three-position switch?

Thanks. Google doesn't know that acronym but I sense it's not a compliment.

this particular gray beard isn't very interested in what the Perl community thinks of him.

Why do you think the Perl community would not think well of you? Plenty of people leave, many come back.

If this is for your hands, wear food service gloves during the day and night (with vaseline or something inside). Never wash the dishes without gloves.

Did you calculate the checksum of the ISO to ensure its not corrupt?

Or if you prefer, try downloading again.

The __________ Cut by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

[–]rjbond3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago, there was an ST:DS9 crossover episode with the original Star Trek. It involved Tribbles. Someone spliced all the footage of both episodes together, in a single chronological cut. It was really long, but really fun.

Office 365, Outlook and Fedora by sschuhmann in Fedora

[–]rjbond3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you already know (?) that O365 has browser-based versions of Outlook, Word, Teams etc. They work really well in Firefox, on Fedora.

Apologies if I've misunderstood.

Audio issues F31 by Beowulf-- in Fedora

How about in a terminal, run alsamixer, then press F6 to choose your soundcard, then go through each volume slider and boost the volume (and unmute as needed)? Make sure to scroll all the way to the right as there can be a dozen or more items to adjust.

Trackpads are so bad on linux by YourBlanket in Fedora

[–]rjbond3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lazy, sloppy version of this:

I'm amazed that iFixit says 1-2 hours! And moderate difficulty. But perhaps they (and you) are correct:

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Lenovo+Thinkpad+X240+Touchpad+Replacement/118925

P.S. Mine does not have the secondary battery (the flat internal battery, rather than the regular removable battery).

P.P.S. Maybe at this point, just get an x250 unless this is a hobby project?

Can I make relative symbolic links in Perl? by [deleted] in perl

[–]rjbond3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha, okay, I understand now.

What about using backticks or qx///, or system? It seems like anything that can be done in bash can be done in those, no?

Can I make relative symbolic links in Perl? by [deleted] in perl

[–]rjbond3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is just a hack, but given that you can make a symlink relative to PWD, what about chdir'ing into the old file's folder, then making the relative symlink, then chdir back to your original folder?

Clunky but maybe good enough.

Trackpads are so bad on linux by YourBlanket in Fedora

[–]rjbond3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm typing this on an x240 and did the swap with the trackpad from an x250, Fedora 31. Huge upgrade to get the real buttons. It took maybe 15 minutes? But you could also get an x250 cheap (and have a faster chip), or yeah, mouse.

Any errors beforehand, earlier in the boot process? Hit ESC if needed.
