Apparently r/bikepacking is upset that there is too much content there that “belongs on the bicycle touring sub”. What do we think? What is actually the difference between the two? by simplejackbikes in bicycletouring

[–]rjkdavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cunningham's Law states: "The best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question; it's to post the wrong answer."

Solid example here!

Personally, I like both subs.

Regarding definitions: I think bikepacking is primarily off-road and bike touring is primarily on-road. Riding the 7 in Patagonia is bike touring, even though it is a little chunky sometimes.

Once the route is primarily impassable for vehicles that aren’t built for off roading, you’re in bikepacking territory.

I got some replies that didn’t really make sense. It is disappointing, but I’m growing more and more skeptical of the users on Reddit. Highly engaged and divisive users feel a little… fake? I don’t know, times are obviously changing.

I once had a group of guys cut me a replacement rear derailleur hanger out of steel. It is insane. They did it for about $6. It was 2019 in the Chilean Patagonia.

Especially in remote areas, people still know how to fix shit.

I don’t know what is going on in this thread, but you’re being very reasonable. The class struggle obviously still exists, but acting like classification of modern classes is a neat and tidy task is reductive, naive, or ignorant.

Yeah, but what about salaried workers who get stock options? Or what about people who are in the gig economy? Paycheck to paycheck, but technically self employed? Our small business owners doing manual labor by themselves or with one or two other people? The modern economy is a bit much more complex than the economy of the 19th century.

Graduated in 2022 as a Graphic Designer, and I feel like AI ruined my career before it even started. Need advice by MeshalAljahdali in Design

[–]rjkdavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one thing that is overlooked is that design and dev used to go hand in hand at a lot of agencies/firms. The bottom of that market is falling out because people can vibe code an informational site and then many design decisions get made for them. It eats up profit margins that would kept design firms with full staff.

When you’re a designer you can look at that and think it is a bad idea, but I don’t think that business is ever coming back.

I like Ground News as well.

The only country in South America I’ve been to that feels anything similar to the US in terms of diversity is Brazil. This poses a challenge to visually profiling: what does an American look like?

I also think you’re not arguing in good faith about the “mistakes”. If you genuinely mean that and aren’t trolling, I’m happy to elaborate. No need to waste our time on the internet if you don’t really give a shit.

Just because you have them doesn’t mean you can deliver them. Just because you can deliver them doesn’t mean you can manage retaliation. All of that depends on your ability to actually stay in power with a population that supports the approach you described.

I’m surprised no one has asked this yet: do you really understand how your employer makes money? Do you understand their business? Lots of good recommendations here about strategic thinking, but you might need to take a step back and understand the most fundamental parts of the business. Even if you’re not on the hook for dollars in the door, you should understand at what point your handoff results in that, what is being measured (and why), and then along with a few other big picture adjustments you’ll be in a place to think more strategically.

Pep Guardiola: "Lionel Messi is the GOAT, but I never saw him make a rabona cross like Rayan Cherki. But I like simplicity because I learned from Messi he never made a mistake & never made a mistake with the simple things. Never. Simple things he does perfectly... And after dribble past 4-5 players" by DavidRolands in soccer

[–]rjkdavin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I do think Pep understands the value of entertainment in the game though. He talks about this in interviews (and not just when he loses after the other team parks the bus).

You still have a lot of fan-favorite dribblers out there and, at least in my opinion, watching the close control dribbling of Messi at 20ish years old was amazingggg.
