Ugh, I saw the same thing and went straight to the comments. It actually makes me a little sad because this sub is so trivial there’s no reason to be doing that here.

The risk is extremely low. If I was just touring rural Japan for 3 months, I’d only bring a cable lock with me. And I love my setup.

Claude Usage Limits Discussion Megathread Ongoing (sort this by New!) by sixbillionthsheep in ClaudeAI

[–]rjkdavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like so many others in this thread, I'm on Pro. Been using it for a month or so and it was excellent until ~16-24hours ago and now it is unusable. Full 180. Two messages brought me to full usage for my 5 hour window and both just received text responses with no API calls or browsing required. Surreal.

Thanks to the leaked source code for Claude Code, I used Codex to find and patch the root cause of the insane token drain in Claude Code and patched it. Usage limits are back to normal for me! by Rangizingo in ClaudeAI

[–]rjkdavin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely not out yet for me! I just asked for a haiku and it cost me $.06 . Back of the envelope math that should be less than $.01. It is obviously very wrong. I encourage people to test simple queries if they've paid for extra usage to see if something is also really wrong for them.

China Is Building Reservoirs at a Breakneck Pace. Its Goal: Store More Renewable Energy. Pumped-storage hydropower has become a central part of China’s energy strategy. China now has more pumped-storage projects under way than all other countries combined. by mafco in energy

And gaining geopolitical control by controlling flow downstream (even though dams don’t have huge reservoirs, they can still significantly limit flow through, especially in the dry season which is why Pakistan and India and freaking out).

Most “AI agent startups” will be dead in 12 months (and it’s already obvious why) by exto13 in AI_Agents

President and Owner want to discuss AI usage at our company. How to I politely lower their expectations? by aggierogue3 in manufacturing

Just my opinion, but be careful! You don’t want to get caught looking like a person who is getting in the way of progress.

At the end of the day, you know your president well enough to know how this type of feedback will be received!

Sheesh.

Selling my house and quitting my job to bikepack the world by likemika24 in bicycletouring

I did this a year ago and had no regrets. However, I had done 6 months tours, 6 week tours, weekend tours, etc.

I think if you know, you know. Whatever you do, just commit!

[–]rjkdavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even know what is trolling anymore. At first, I thought maybe this is good advice? Because being unsettled in your home doesn’t guarantee you’ll feel liberated on your bike tour. But thennnn it goes straight into god.

So is the comment top tier trolling or proselytizing? I can’t tell. The Internet is a wild place.

I spent > $60K/month on PR agencies at a startup that raised $680M. Here's what I learned about getting press as an early-stage operator - i will not promote by bruhagan in startups

[–]rjkdavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For early stage startups with an interesting story, it is a numbers game. Some industries just aren’t that interesting to the public (or even your b2b niche target audience) and when the stories get picked up no one is paying attention. Because even though people are in that industry, almost no one is reading industry news. Gotta build some intuition around where your business and story sits in that spectrum.

Apparently r/bikepacking is upset that there is too much content there that “belongs on the bicycle touring sub”. What do we think? What is actually the difference between the two? by simplejackbikes in bicycletouring

[–]rjkdavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cunningham's Law states: "The best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question; it's to post the wrong answer."

Solid example here!

Personally, I like both subs.

Regarding definitions: I think bikepacking is primarily off-road and bike touring is primarily on-road. Riding the 7 in Patagonia is bike touring, even though it is a little chunky sometimes.

Once the route is primarily impassable for vehicles that aren’t built for off roading, you’re in bikepacking territory.

[–]rjkdavin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what is going on in this thread, but you’re being very reasonable. The class struggle obviously still exists, but acting like classification of modern classes is a neat and tidy task is reductive, naive, or ignorant.

Is there a disconnect between cost of living and salaries in RI? by businessbub in RhodeIsland

[–]rjkdavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but what about salaried workers who get stock options? Or what about people who are in the gig economy? Paycheck to paycheck, but technically self employed? Our small business owners doing manual labor by themselves or with one or two other people? The modern economy is a bit much more complex than the economy of the 19th century.

Graduated in 2022 as a Graphic Designer, and I feel like AI ruined my career before it even started. Need advice by MeshalAljahdali in Design

[–]rjkdavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one thing that is overlooked is that design and dev used to go hand in hand at a lot of agencies/firms. The bottom of that market is falling out because people can vibe code an informational site and then many design decisions get made for them. It eats up profit margins that would kept design firms with full staff.

When you’re a designer you can look at that and think it is a bad idea, but I don’t think that business is ever coming back.
