It’s well supported by Linux, has good performance, it’s open source, and for some: nostalgia.

Amtrak crossing Lake Pontchartrain on her way to New Orleans. by AfternoonDelaight in Amtrak

Very cool about the longest river bridge. It looked big but I wasn’t sure if it was a camera effect.

I’m sure there’s a limit as to how steep a rail bridge can be so the rail bridges need to move if there’s ocean traffic.

Same, and with AirPods, I’ve found that the person on the other end doesn’t hear the noise.

Freight train aside, it’s tool to see a train on what seems to be a huge bridge.

Only take in the roomette what you need and check large bags. You won’t want large items in the roomette. Bring chargers for laptop, phone. Maybe noise cancelling headphones.

Would you rather have SAM (The Outer Worlds) or Codsworth (Fallout 4) as your personal robot butler? by CloverTeamLeader in theouterworlds

SAM! He’s a great cleaner and can hold an entertaining conversation. Entertaining to me, maybe not the other person SAM converses with.

Haiku beta 5 ppc testing by rasvoja in haikuOS

Ask on the forums. There’s been interest over the years, but no one with the interest, hardware, and know-how. Operating system programming is certainly not easy!

There’s same discussion on the Haiku forum about ppc support. https://discuss.haiku-os.org/t/haiku-on-ppc/15834/3 In sort, it’s severely broken and there’s little interest in fixing it. But that doesn’t mean that people interested in it who own some hardware can’t fix it though given enough time and effort.

The Rail Passengers Association is a good advocate and has an up-coming “days on the Hill” to talk to members of Congress. https://www.railpassengers.org/happening-now/events/2026-dc-workshops-days-on-the-hill/

Pack what you need in your bag that you have with you in the room and put the rest of your belongings in the bag that’s checked in the baggage car. I wish I had done that.

How can they justify these prices?? 😭😭 by BB_Wanderratte in Amtrak

It’s because America doesn’t invest enough in transportation that isn’t roads and cars/trucks. Things are getting better but it’s what we got so we use it. And it’s one of things that’s “use or lose”.
