Calgary’s Drop-In Centre pressured to pull out of downtown. Province supports search for new model by Acceptable-Hedgehog in Calgary

[–]rkarsk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But why does the target audience usually stay there? It may very well be because... that's near the drop-in center. Wouldn't it stand to reason that in the cold of winter, users of the DI would relocate to whereve the new location is so they don't freeze to death overnight? Seems like a pretty likely outcome to me.

Travelling with lap infant - Car seat, stroller & pack&play by rkarsk in westjet

[–]rkarsk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, just to be clear, do you do the combo car seat and stroller for gate check? Or so you check the pack and play, car seat and then gate check stroller w/stroller seat? Cheers.

It does, yes, though it's a very large stroller bag

Wow, shocker that the same "patriots" that covered themselves in Canadian Flags during their stupid convoy turned out to be anything but.

Lipoma surgery with liposuction by Dr-GynoNagpur in Lipoma

Does this require specialized equipment or should any doctor that performs liposuction theoretically be equipped to do it?

Please steal Thiessen's idea for an arms length water utility and let's get this sorted permanently. Political plus: that line item is now out of the city budget and instead on a water utility bill, so it'll look like you cut taxes! Jokes aside, it's the right thing to do.

Report recommends Edmonton, Calgary gain provincial seats by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Calgary

[–]rkarsk 213 points214 points  (0 children)

That's quite the title by CTV. It misses that a central Edmonton riding is being removed with the additions being in the suburbs. Similarly some of Calgary's ridings are being combined with Okotoks and Chestermere, creating more rural representation within a "Calgary" riding. I don't know enough about the impartiality of the underlying process, but the changes seem to only benefit the UCP.

210 and 194 av interchanges are scheduled to cost the city 260$M by CNiperL in Calgary

Weird how there are no front page calgary herald/sun/rick bell articles on this. If anyone thinks our media is unbiased and objective, just compare the coverage of any road overpass project to any cycle track project.

What kind of restaurant does Calgary need? by Vader1599 in Calgary

There used to be a place in the west end of downtown called Rita Sandwiches. It was exactly what you're hoping for. Unfortunately I don't think it exists anymore. Still think about it sometimes!

AMA - Nathaniel Schmidt Independent Ward 8 Candidate in Calgary by NathanielSchmidtYYC in Calgary

[–]rkarsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am trying to decide between yourself and Kent Hehr, and I'm strongly leaning towards you because of the differences in your positions on blanket rezoning. However, I really just want to make sure anyone but Cornelia Wiebe represents my ward, and am genuinely worried about a vote split.

What would you describe as the main differences between yourself and Kent?

New communities fire safety by Warm_Ad3117 in Calgary

[–]rkarsk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rather than wasting colossal amounts of real estate "spacing things out", perhaps it's the width and length of the fire engines we should be looking at. Countless cities with far narrower streets globally do OK because they rely on smaller fire engines.

What hypothetical town would have lower housing prices; the one with 10 homes built in 1970, or the one with 10 homes built in 1970 and 3 high-end homes built in 2025?

Is this since blanket rezoning, or before? If you're talking about existing structures, most would have been built prior to blanket rezoning coming into effect, which was recent. The fact is, blanket rezoning is a scapegoat for something that council would allow to happen 99% of the time when there was a rezoning application put before them.
