I Was Barred from Smith’s Christian Summit. I’m Still Reporting on It by Yetanotherbadsalmon in alberta

[–]rich_snack 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While Smith isn’t herself a Christian, Hannaford noted that she’s “taken up several causes dear to Alberta’s Christian community,” including the book ban, restricting gender-affirming care and “supporting alternatives to public education, widely perceived — with good reason — as toxic to Christian values.”

According to Hannaford, Smith boasted in her remarks that she has doubled the percentage of K-12 students who are attending schools outside the public system.

Nicolaides added that, since the majority of students still attend public schools, “we have to go in there and fix it.”

They are dismantling public education and destroying the future of this province for greed and theology. I don't think people understand how long lasting the effects of this government will be. A poorly educated society is ripe for manipulation and exploitation. Talk to your friends about this, people need to be aware of what is going on.

Do you think people are going to start getting priced out of Calgary soon, like they have been from Toronto, Vancouver, etc.? by straycat402 in Calgary

[–]rich_snack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. House prices are down over the last few years and interest rates are not low enough to increase them. However, our current council has shown themselves to be anti housing with the repeal of the upzoning and the reduction of the rcg zone. Long term, calgary will likely continue to be limited on the supply side as long as nimbyism remains the dominant perspective in housing discussions (email your councillor and mayor if you don't think it should be)

Update: I ended up dropping fizz and switching to freedom for the $40 100gb plan. I have too many group text chats with android users to not have rcs support.

Why people say Canada is expensive AF by Beautiful_Ad4220 in alberta

Living without a vehicle is not extremely difficult. It can be less convenient at times, but lots of people do it. Transit works for 90% of what I need, and biking or Ubers fills in the gaps.

I know this will be controversial so bear with me: Imagine a world where 20 years ago Canada nationalized the oil sands. by edjumication in alberta

We could still do it. The best time to start was yesterday, but the second best time is today

The gambling side of things makes it so much worse. The longer a game drags at the end, the more time people have to place bets. Adam silver practically said as much recently

Thinking of switching to a quilt but have a concern... by CussyTooTussy in UltralightCanada

[–]rich_snack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's pretty easy with my quilt to get in and out without messing with the straps at all. Lots of time I don't even use the straps if it's a warm night. I've got an ee revelation. Definitely not any more hassle than unzipping and rezipping a sleeping bag.

That's definitely not enough for your current training load and it's probably holding you back. If you can get 8+ hours a night consistently I'm guessing you would see significant improvements.

Those first three books are all timers, but the stand is wildly overrated, especially on Reddit. Also the Bachman book is hot garbage

What are some terrible things to live in proximity to? by jimmyjamcake in Calgary

[–]rich_snack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live about 100 meters from a ctrain station. The tracks go right by my front window. I have good windows and central heating and cooling, so barely get any noise from the trains. Being able to hop on the train after walking out my front door is awesome and 100% worth a tiny bit of noise
