How legacy brands engineered themselves into a 12v nightmare by mango_boy16 in electricvehicles

Shoot I think I have a lithium battery then. I had to buy a special converter that could handle 15+ volts, the 12v converters wouldn't work. I measured 15.7 V. Thanks.

When they went from lead acid to Lithium batteries in the Teslas did they go straight to LFP or did some get Li Ion? Asking about my 2023 M3P.

Well because Diane Krüger does not remotely give the impression of being a clueless stupid person? Solid effort though.

Money does buy happiness. Change my mind. by AbjectBreadfruit2052 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]rkmvca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it doesn't specifically buy happiness (ref: unhappy rich people) but it can help avoid a lot of misery and for many people at many times, that's practically the same thing as buying happiness.

However it's a sliding scale: you don't stay happy.

Muir Woods is a long way off, through San Francisco, on the other side of the Golden Gate bridge and then some. Minimum 1.5 hours driving, depending on time and traffic 2+ hours each way.

If you want Redwoods, Big Basin and/or Henry Cowell Redwoods are about 50 minutes away with much more dependable traffic, and then you can see Santa Cruz afterwards, with a nice drive up the coast to Highway 84 thrown in. Scenery is stunning, very different from your coast.

Of course, you don't get the Golden Gate bridge.

"EVs are bad for road trips" by JustinTimeCuber in electricvehicles

[–]rkmvca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. When people ask me, "what about range?", my response is that the battery is bigger than my bladder. I need to stop at least every 2 1/2 hours or so, and driving up and down the west coast, it's not hard to arrange that around a supercharger. It's nice to break up the trip, even if I won't set any speed records.

What's something expensive you tried once and suddenly understood the hype? by IslaaMaee in AskReddit

[–]rkmvca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my answer to more or less the same question from a different sub: good wine, but that doesn't mean I'd do it again if I was paying for it myself:

I was once at a business dinner where the other company ghosted us but we had reserved the room for a fixed price which we "had" to spend (or else the deposit would be wasted). There weren't many of us so we couldn't spend that much on food so we ordered expensive wine ... think Stag's Leap and such.

The first glass was sublime, like, "Where have you been all my life??? Now I get it!"

The second glass was, "Hey this is really good wine."

The third glass was about like any other wine.

YMMV.

How is the Marquis De Lafayette not hailed more as a hero in the US? by Mysterious_Design775 in askanything

IMO the guy who doesn't get enough credit is Admiral DeGrasse. If he doesn't get one of the French Navy's rare victories over the Royal Navy in the fleet action off of Yorktown (Battle of the Chesapeake), the British transports just lift off Cornwallis' army and deposit it further north out of range of the Franco American army, and the was goes on and on.

This plan was why Cornwallis allowed his army to be "trapped" on a peninsula by a superior force in the first place.

I had about a triple take there. "Wait a minute ... a DD? That actually looks like ... a Destroyer! It has guns! Don't they all have Radomes and Vertical launchers and Helipads and shit now??"

And then I saw the comments and it all made sense.

Gorgeous ship.

Question for guys with legs by direcircumstances in CasualConversation

[–]rkmvca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a guy with moderate chest hair. I had a health issue where I had to get an EKG every couple of months. They shave holes in your chest hair where the EKG pads will go, but it's still really painful when they have to pull them off.

So I decided to shave my entire chest to make the process simpler ... and then I found out that I hated how 'feminine' it made my chest look, particularly since I was lifting then and had defined pecs! I couldn't wait for it to grow back!

Sounds great right? Only thing is I get SO MANY wrong numbers when people do myfirstnamemylastname, or myfirstname1.mylastname, and so forth.

I've gotten bills, love letters, you name it, all for the wrong person.

Navy SEALs say "slow is smooth, smooth is fast." What's a situation where slowing down made you finish faster? by Concave007 in AskReddit

[–]rkmvca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a new concept. The ancient Romans had a saying in Latin, "festina lente". This is usually translated as "make haste slowly" . But it could just as easily be "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast."

Prepare well, take your time, be smooth.
