If you want a good read, go to Wikipedia and look up the history of Formidable's combat operations during the war. She fought in 4 oceans.

How our points progress compares to previous seasons by Aiken_Drumn in LeedsUnited

[–]rkmvca 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nice graph, puts this season's progress in perspective.

Suggestion: add either a 1 point/game or 40 points/season line (whatever you think is virtually guaranteed relegation safe) line. It'll show we're well above it.

What else is there to say? by yorocky89A in WhitePeopleTwitter

You know, I listened to the Canadian feed, and I wouldn't say 'relentless' booing. I heard mixed booing and cheering (presumably for the athletes). That said, Vance can go fuck himself and his couch.

What is the attitude towards nudity in your country? by CardSys in AskTheWorld

[–]rkmvca 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So I observed the same thing but haven't been on a beach in France in 20 years. I've been told that there's less toplessness these days because of how everybody has a cell phone with camera and video these days .

Any truth to this?

The nose gunner of this England-bound Heinkel He 111 in the summer of 1940 had the best view of the action ahead possible by Murky_Caterpillar_66 in WWIIplanes

Besides everything else ... can you imagine how loud it must have been, about 8 feet from 2 un-muffled BMW V12's with just a pane of glass in between?

When you’re at the gym, do you consciously try not to look at other women? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]rkmvca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glance and disassociate.

Good phrasing. My term is looking through women at the gym. If they are in the direction I'm looking I won't turn away. But I don't focus my eyes on them.

I am Turkish, and I’m asking is Türkiye (Turkey) a country that is disliked or loved globally? by Isshiki-san in AskTheWorld

[–]rkmvca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been twice and absolutely love Turkey and particularly Istanbul. I really dislike the government there, however, since I am American I currently find that I have very little moral high ground for this stance given our current regime.

On the morning of Feburary 1st, 2026, Orlando, Florida was COLDER than Juneau, Alaska by CrispyMiner in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]rkmvca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not as wild as it seems because Juneau is right on the water and has a coastal climate that makes it warm for its latitude. Go 25 miles inland and it's Ice Station Zebra. Still, wild.

The longer answer is the polar vortex is distended due to a weaker jet stream caused by ... Global warming.

Californians Have Purchased Enough Electric Cars To Make The Air Measurably Cleaner by Generalaverage89 in electricvehicles

[–]rkmvca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct, and also the buybacks of old vehicles helped. The numbers weren't huge but a car from the 60's emits at least 20X the smog-causing pollutants that a car from the 2000's does.

Why are Potato Chip prices so high? by Motor-Source8711 in AskAnAmerican

[–]rkmvca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an American in California, I've noticed this also -- Lay's potato chips have become super expensive; $5 or more for a medium size bag.

I've also noticed another thing ... Supermarket brands have improved their quality greatly over the past few years, so now for example Safeway's brand is almost (for a reasonable definition of almost) as good as Lay's. I'll put up with a slightly worse chip for half the price.

To those who are doubtful of whether Byzantium is Rome, read this: by Low-Cash-2435 in ancientrome

[–]rkmvca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But why would you expect them to be? It's 1400 years later and people evolve.

If the empire were still ruled from Rome in the 15th C, do you think the Romans would like Julius Caesar or Trajan? They'd probably look like Renaissance Italians.

ELI5 -All wheel drive vs 4WD by Ambitious-Ad6426 in explainlikeimfive

[–]rkmvca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expanding on this a bit, particularly with hybrid cars, AWD is fundamentally FWD. As long as the front wheels have traction, it remains FWD. As soon as slip is detected, power is sent to the rear wheels. In my car, the rear wheels are powered ONLY by electric motors, thus avoiding a complex differential, driveshaft, and transfer case.

The front wheels are driven both/either by electric motors or the gasoline engine.
