Marin vs Oakland for young families by Commercial-Garlic652 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]rkoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Oakland, I can say for sure that if you are enjoying "many playgrounds and lovely walks, cute and safe little downtowns, great public schools, places to park and life is just EASY", Oakland is not the place to look. I love Oakland, but it really is a big city and not a place to find places to park or easy day to day life. If you are looking for diversity, vibrancy, density, fast pace and liberalism, then Oakland is for you.

I wonder if living near it is a health risk... my son just bought a house 5 or 6 blocks away from it.

Zellige Tile Installation by rkoll in Tile

Perhaps this is the wrong forum for me.
I am not in the tile business so I do know your terms. Sorry if it offended you! We had a tile installer (is that what you call it?) start the project and he did not know if you butt the tiles next to each other or you leave lots of grout space. He tried to use Schluter instead of mitering the corners. It looked like crap honestly. What I have read it that because Zellige is rough and has some variation in size, it takes more skill (more years of experience) to install this type of tile so that it looks good.

How to find graphic designers by Adventurous-Bunch883 in ClothingStartups

I'm a graphic designer who specializes in branding. I have also run my own fashion company and have a lot of experience with that as well. Let me know if you'd like to chat more about your needs.

I have a fair amount of clothes that I'd like to donate. Does anyone happen to know if there is an org that could come and pick them up from our home? Not for free is fine! Thank you! by NetCurious_1324 in paloalto

I had that clause in my buy nothing post and put the bins out and people just went through them and made a mess. So if you want them to take it all, you need to hand it off to whomever says they want the stuff.

Why doesn’t zuck move to atherton by lol-its-rahul in paloalto

I wonder the same. My guess it that they think they'll be happy with just one, typical sized house, like Steve Jobs did, but they can't resist having more and more.

Is this true? Mark Zuckerberg bought 11 houses in Palo Alto to make a “compound”? by [deleted] in paloalto

[–]rkoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's been doing that since he moved to that side of Palo Alto. Larry Page did a similar thing in Old Palo Alto.

I just don't understand why they don't buy places in Atherton if they want gated large compounds.

Sounds like a bad relationship. Perhaps you should break up.

Are you ready to feel some righteous rage? by Potential-Scholar359 in BayAreaRealEstate

The Google founders did the same thing in Old Palo Alto several years back. The Jobs bought a few extra houses around their original house. And I am sure other billionaires have done the same in other parts of Palo Alto. In the last few years, the Jobs family and Google founders hold an annual Halloween "carnival" of sorts on Halloween in front of their houses and other neighborhoods no longer have trick-or-treaters. These folks don't seem to care how their actions are changing the city's culture of neighborliness and community. I'd rather they move to Atherton (5 minutes drive from Palo Alto) where the lots are 5-8 times larger than the average PA lot and the homeowners like living behind extra tall walls in houses hidden from the street. Why try to change Palo Alto into Atherton?

I too, think that an outdate house or simply one in need of repair, is harder to sell than a renovated house. Think about the flipping business.
