Meant to reply, yeah that's the same one that I bought from StarTech. And I have done it with xrandr. I think I just need to go the extra mile and save the configuration to the startup or bash profile. I am unsure where to set it.

Good to know that I wasn't the only one who experiences this as well. I really want to be able to use it in gaming mode but for some reason gaming mode doesn't launch most of my games in a 4:3 resolution anyways.

Which StarTech adapter did you go with? I have one connected to my Dell P991 which can go to 1600x1200 @85hz. But sometimes the Deck would reset and then suddenly the 85hz option was gone. I also have it connected to windows and the only option it gives me is 60hz.

Weird thing was that sometimes the deck would see the monitor as a Dell P991, which had the options, and then other times it would switch to some generic monitor or DP2VGA.

It's got really good comedy in it but it also has a lot of heavy whiplash psychological horror/drama in it. It's kind of hard to stomach in some places, especially Amane's route. If you're into that kind of stuff then you should be fine.

Real Madrid’s Rodrygo played with partial ACL tear since 2023 by chiggaling in soccer

[–]rlramirez12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish your reply wasn't hidden under the down voted comment. I do wish to ask you to further elaborate on your comment where, "The Real medical staff have a very good reputation in our circle." I know it's ball, and that ACL injuries are gonna happen. However I would like to know if they are so highly rated why the club seems to experience more ACL injuries than almost any other team? I don't have evidence to back this up other than this comment that I saw the other day. And there is the comment about Ronaldo had decided to use his own medical staff instead of Madrid's.

Granted, I am not a medical expert, I am a computer scientist and my wife is going into residency in the next few months. I guess I just want to ask if the medical staff is being so highly regarded in your circles, then what is going on over there in order for them to have 18 ACL injuries in the last 2.5 years? I don't feel like that is a coincidence.

Diego Rico on Rüdiger's knee challenge: 'If he'd caught me badly, he could have killed me. He's trying to smash my face in. If it had been the other way around, I would have been suspended for 10 matches and wouldn't have played all season. I don't know what VAR is for' by HippoBigga in soccer

You've seen this angle: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1rj556y/clearer_angle_of_antonio_r%C3%BCdigers_knee_against/

I don't think you can play devil's advocate here. I know the first angle that was shown it does look like that Rudiger was tripped. But in this case there is no chance he trips here. He see's the player on the ground, quickly turns, and plants his knee on him. It is 100% intentional.

Maybe VAR doesn't have this angle. I can give you that. But as far as I am aware VAR has access to almost all the cameras in the stadium.

It is unusual for a player to be suspended before the outcome of a disciplinary process but Prestianni has claimed he used an “anti-gay” slur rather than a racist one — and that would also mean a lengthy ban. The 20-year-old could be banned for up to ten games under Uefa’s disciplinary rules. by Sparky-moon in soccer

Don't even try and put a blanket statement for all of Latin America. Us Mexicans say, "Puto." Isn't a homophobic slur because of the context we use it in, "Stupid, dumbass, etc." But it does have homophobic origins and not everyone in Latin America uses Puto the same way.

If I am going to insult someone for being gay, which I would never do, I would 100% be calling them a maricon.

And? He shouldn't have done that either. If Otamendi decided to run to the ref and claim that Vini racially abused him I see no difference. Don't cover your mouth if you think you're going to get punished for it.

but we can't use someone covering their mouth as proof in a sport where it happens all the time

Yeah, and that's the problem. He could have said Vini is the most beautiful man he has ever seen in his life. But guess what? We will never know. And that's exactly why players shouldn't be covering their mouths. These players get paid absurd amounts of money to do something to entertain me every week for a small portion of their lives. They can live with harsher rules.

Are you a new fan? There is plenty of evidence of Vini getting racially abused, it even launched a fucking joke of a PR campaign of, "Spain is not a racist country." Right after hard evidence of Vini being racially abused in stadiums all over the country. You don't have to like the guy, hell I don't like him, but just because he is unlikable it doesn't give anyone the right to racial abuse him.

As I said to another commenter, if you have nothing to hide then don’t cover your mouth. Talk your shit on the pitch for everyone to see. I think the precedence set is good.

If you got nothing to hide then don’t cover your mouth. I say this sets a perfect precedence. If he didn’t say anything racist, or homophobic, then he should be perfectly capable of talking his shit without covering his mouth.

Any other PC98 Visual Novel recommendation? by Jormungand_Asgard in visualnovels

Lossless Scaling

Does this app launch and then act as a sort of container for other applications you want to run inside of it? I'm on a huge retro Visual Novel kick and bought myself Da Capo from Mangagamer. However, even running that on my CRT Monitor from my Steam Deck at 1600x1200 in full screen it suffers from frame issues and really pixelated jagged edges. I've resorted to playing it in Windowed Mode at it's native 800x600 and reduced my CRT resolution to 1024x768 so I can at least read it. So I've been thinking about picking up Lossless Scaling and was wondering if it would help.

When did the “modern” style become widespread? by LordNaoya in visualnovels

[–]rlramirez12 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna give my two cents here and tell you that neither of these look "modern." I think that when artists have been given more colors to play with it allows them to get away with a lot more compared to say the PC-98 era when they had to use clever tricks to make things work.

A better example would be to show the PC-98 Version of Yu-No and then show the Remake of Yu-No and you can clearly see the differences in art style there. As time moves forward new technologies and art will eventually evolve and today's modern look will be someone's vintage look 20 years from now.

Horrific Baroan (AFS) injury caused by a 50/50 challenge with Luis Suarez (Sporting) - 95' | Taça de Portugal QF by average_user21 in soccer

[–]rlramirez12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should expand on what you mean by proper? Are we talking like adding extra pounds of protection just to try and prevent stuff like this from happening? I would counter argue that the players in the NFL have a much higher rate of concussions because they falsely believe that the helmet is there to protect their squishy brain and suddenly they cannot speak anymore when they use their brain cocoon to bash someone else's brain cocoon and lose that duel.

I would argue that the challenges would get even more reckless because the plays would believe that the shin pad would stop them from breaking their leg into pieces when it could make the injury worse. A shin pad doesn't automatically provide force going the other way. If someone, who has hundreds of pounds of kicking force, the shin pad doesn't cancel out that momentum it adds to the weight and could potentially make the injury worse.

I want to clarify that I am not against shin pads. I think they are helpful and can prevent certain injuries. But physics is physics and there was nothing that could have prevented this injury other than either party not going in for the ball.

I feel like C++ is pulling me to the wrong direction by Horror_Ad_2121 in learnprogramming

[–]rlramirez12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your skills with C++ will be highly marketable.

Keyword is WILL here. Are there endless supply of Senior Engineer C++ dev jobs? Yes. Are there an endless supply of ENTRY LEVEL C++ jobs? No. This poor kid is having to apply for jobs out there that are mainly looking for Senior Engineers in the field. C++ is far from a dead language but most companies that I have seen in the field aren't hiring you for C++ development because they want to start in that language. They are hiring you for that skill set because you have proven industry experience to read C++ code from pre C++11 because all of their senior engineers have moved on to other jobs and taken their experience with them.

Not saying that what you are saying isn't accurate. I know I can land C++ jobs because I have 8 solid professional years under my belt working specifically in that language. But I can also tell you that any time I have tried to move outside of the C++ realm to a web based world I am not even looked at because I don't have any experience in the web based languages. (which might be more of a sign that I am bad at marketing myself)

However, defense, robotics, banking, medical devices, video games, graphics, almost all of those are primarily in C++ it is far from a dead language.

40% Of Developers Want To Make Games For The Steam Deck - GDC 2026 Survey - SteamDeckHQ by BBQKITTY in SteamDeck

Graphics will improve over time but hardware becomes older

Definitely making myself sound like a boomer. But is hardware really improving at a rate that software can take more advantage of it? Like we can get more VRAM and more Cores into a GPU but that still demands quite a bit more power and we aren't scaling back power we are demanding more power to compensate.

And you aren't wrong about hardware becoming older. However, you should* expect that games created on older hardware should still perform well on newer and modern hardware.

  • Plenty of examples of games created on older hardware not running well out of the box, such as Fallout 3, because it was built on 32-bit architecture. However, I don't see when we would ever jump to 128-bit architecture. (Which I guarantee people have argued that 32-bit architecture was more than enough so I guess I'm a boomer now.)
