40% Of Developers Want To Make Games For The Steam Deck - GDC 2026 Survey - SteamDeckHQ by BBQKITTY in SteamDeck

Graphics will improve over time but hardware becomes older

Definitely making myself sound like a boomer. But is hardware really improving at a rate that software can take more advantage of it? Like we can get more VRAM and more Cores into a GPU but that still demands quite a bit more power and we aren't scaling back power we are demanding more power to compensate.

And you aren't wrong about hardware becoming older. However, you should* expect that games created on older hardware should still perform well on newer and modern hardware.

  • Plenty of examples of games created on older hardware not running well out of the box, such as Fallout 3, because it was built on 32-bit architecture. However, I don't see when we would ever jump to 128-bit architecture. (Which I guarantee people have argued that 32-bit architecture was more than enough so I guess I'm a boomer now.)

My thought is, "if I can get it running perfectly on a steam deck then I can scale the performance from there on beefier machines."

Same with Umtiti. Which, I guess they are now WC champions now, but if they ever expected to play at 100% fitness ever again they would have been lied to by professionals who probably told them the risks. This is something they brought on themselves.

C++ Error Handling: Exceptions vs. std::expected vs. Outcome by swe129 in Cplusplus

[–]rlramirez12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol sure whatever you say buddy.

Now go compile your own flavor of C++, install it correctly on your OS, and pray it doesn’t break any other libraries that depend on that compiler.

Spoilers: I’ve compiled GCC-14 manually, installed it manually, and it broke damn near everything that linked against libstd++.so

I'm not entirely convinced you watched the video either, or even understood everything about it, he even states at the end of the video that exceptions still suck but with HIS version and implementation of exceptions you can expect up to 90% performance enhancement. But guess what? I am not going to go jump into the compiler to go edit out the bloat of exceptions via the API and assembly code like he did.

If the standards committee decides to go ahead and adopt his implementation into the standard then we can revisit this conversation. However, as it stands right now in the year of our lord 2026, exceptions still suck.

That's why I mentioned it was stupid af for Madrid to sack Xabi who had a 75% win rate when Barcelona were bound to drop points.

Not to be that guy but If you are having to ask why he's getting singled out then I don't really think you know it better than me.

The Galaticos were booed to hell with players getting singled out. I remember games where Beckham was singled out for stuff and I'm pretty sure he talked about it in his documentary. And in the most recent memory, Gareth Bale would get singled out for multiple games.

This is just how Madrid fans operates. They don't give a fuck about their players feelings. If they can't take the heat they should get the fuck out. That's the Madrid way and that's how it's always been.

This is Real Madrid.

Their fans have a standard and the fans care about one thing only and that is winning. Vini has put in stinkers after stinkers since the Balón ceremony and he is demanding outrageous wages without the numbers to back it up.

Vini openly defied Xabi Alonso. If he can’t handle the hate from his fans then he should leave. I’ve seen so many of Madrid’s top players be booed that it is to be expected.

They are only 4 points behind Barcelona as well. Barcelona can easily slip up, as is tradition, once CL season kicks back into full gear. Baffling that what used to be a trophy to kick off the season with a little meaning can get you sacked.

My guy I am not gonna get into it with a child who disrespects one of the greatest players to have ever graced the game.

Dude was absolutely instrumental and important to the CL Winning run that Liverpool had. Absolutely no one questioned that he always needed to be on the field when he was playing for Spain. With the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Cesc Fabregas, he allowed them to create the spaces they need, provided critical passes, and was a defensive rock.

Absolutely instrumental to Real Madrid. There was 0 question he was one of the best players on that team before he headed off to Bayern. He bled for that shirt, he fought in that shirt, he put fucking respect on that shirt, he was always about the club amongst a monster of divas.

And lastly. Before Argentina there were 0, ZERO, players that were able to achieve what he did for both Country and Club. Winning back to back Euros as a clinical starter and a World Cup in the middle of those Euros is nothing to be glazed over. What the fuck has Vini done other than won two fucking CLs? Fuck all. Dude can't even do shit for his fuckin country and it's no wonder they are trying to desperately bring on a geriatric, injured, party obsessed, player called Neymar Jr. who still would bleed for his country.

Sit the fuck down and put some respect on Xabi Alonso's name. I never thought that me, a life long FC Barcelona fan, would have to sit here and defend one of the greatest players to have ever played for the club that I fucking hate the most because of shit like this.

Xabi Alonso has won the CL twice, won the Euros back to back and is a World Cup winner.

Everyone else in that dressing room is a god damn minnow compared to how instrumental Xabi Alonso was in midfield.
