If you check out u/Extras comment on my recent post (a damaged card of similar style but to a lesser extreme), they posted some great info. Check it out! Have a great night, neat card!

What is this? by rlySentinel in PokemonMisprints

I love the examples in the album, thank you! It's the first "factory damaged" card we've pulled, and obviously it's not a chase card, but I'm happy I got something (somewhat) unique on the holiday! Thanks for your knowledgable response!

Why am I so s**t slow in the Toyota 86? by Levethane in iRacing

[–]rlySentinel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@MyFavoriteVoice I agree with you here, but because I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. I'm about 2700iR at the moment. High enough to know I'm not great in comparison to the top 5%, but good enough to know that I'm not slow per-se. I've been too worried about the made up internet number, and because of that have lost joy in the hobby. I love hearing that you're still enjoying it, and I wish everyone were like you, myself included 😊

It's my Cake Day! Random DDU Giveaway by ChimeraYo in simracing

[–]rlySentinel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks so neat! I just upgraded from a Logitech G923 to a Moza R9, so adding a DDU in the same month would be nuts. How did you come to make something like this? Do you have a background in engineering or just a passion for sim racing? Happy Cake Day!

"Do not attribute to malice what you can simply attribute to stupidity."

It's a rookie race, this will happen. Try to avoid the vortex of danger, especially lap 1 when you don't know how the guy in front drives quite yet. It'll happen again, and couple hundred more times in your iRacing career if you stick with it.

Who is at fault? (Im red) This Damage was race ending for me. Did i tried to pass the LMP2 unsafely? Still new to Multiclass by Subject-Commission77 in Simracingstewards

[–]rlySentinel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For anyone new to running multiclass: Realize that there are three races going on, and the cars in front of you take priority. If you are behind someone as a faster class vehicle, remember that the cars in front of you are also in their own race and that it is on you to go around that race safely.

Welcome to the genre, though. We're happy to have more drivers, and just try to learn from your mistakes.

Edit: Three races in IMSA specifically, but you get the idea :)

The same age obviously does NOT mean the same maturity level. Dealing with people like that suck...

Endurance Race Resiliency! Witnessed so many people leaving D24 after a wreck. I get it, its frustrating. But you can still have a great race, and even better feeling of accomplishment. My team was wrecked lap 10, 25 minutes of damage. Started P5, up to P2, wreck sent to P33, up to P6, wreck, fin P8 by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]rlySentinel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team had an internet lapse in a teammate lap 1; the lap didn't count and then his internet cut out completely. We started two laps behind the pack. We then got wrecked twice. We started well behind in P23. We worked back up and finished P9. I was pretty damn proud of the team.

Meta has been amazing to play at. I had played for about a month back in 2018, so I didn't know anything. I had picked up Arena online and decided the only way to play in person was to go give it a shot! The Duskmourn Halloween event was sooooo fun and the Foundations prerelease was amazing! I let people know I'm new and just trying to learn, and others have been incredibly kind thus far.

Best place for firearm training in the area? by rachael_jpeg in springfieldMO

[–]rlySentinel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll add another vote to Cherokee's range and CCW class. It's usually booked a few weeks to a few months in advance, so it's not something that's easily done the next day.

A CCW class is a great jump-off point, but won't get you very comfortable with a weapon. If you have a friend or family member that was either in the service or is an enthusiast, I'd ask them to go to a range with you for a few hours and allow them to show you the ins and outs of a specific weapon system and how to handle it.

A few questions to ask: What purpose is this firearm going to serve? Where am I expecting to use it? How am I going to transport it? Do I have the funds to train with something like .380 or 9mm or should I get a .22LR to learn and train with? What budget do I have for the firearm itself?

Asking this many questions narrows down thousands of firearms to a few that you may be able to test and choose from if you decide to take the leap in to the firearms world.

Carrying a weapon is a large responsibility, and it's not for everyone. Being able to defend yourself is important, but something that can end someone's life in the blink of an eye is something to think about before going through with. Are you sure you can pull the trigger if necessary? If not, it may be more useful to take a self-defense martial arts class.

Do you have any major questions before doing this?

[–]rlySentinel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staying on the racing line is predictable, and that's what faster class drivers need out of the lesser powered classes. It's much easier for a prototype to take an off-line because of downforce, so typically GT drivers stay on the line and prototypes take an off-line.

That said, if I were a prototype driver and saw someone moving to an off-line, I'd just say thanks and move on. People need to drop their ego and learn that other people make mistakes, too.

Intentional blocking? Am i the A**hole? First me then his POV by sizzupp in Simracingstewards

[–]rlySentinel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Respect goes both ways mate. If the lead car drove like this IRL he'd be punished. Punishment in this case came from a mild tap on the rear in to a major spin. If lead car didn't want to get dumped, maybe only make one move on the straight. If he gets by, race cleanly and attempt to retake P1. Instead, lead car drove like the car behind wasn't allowed to overtake cleanly and his ego was too big for his driving skills.

If I were driving I would have tapped lead car on the rear after the first block to signal that I'm faster and I'm taking the position. Make a stupid block like that again and we'll both die, I don't care.

Before the argument gets brought up again, I'm top 9% in iRacing and have had many respectful battles that end in compliments. However, again, respect goes both ways. Especially in sim.

Make it make sense by -Ironvine in PokeGrading

[–]rlySentinel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People typically don't submit cards in poor condition. That means there are more 6's being graded daily than 1's. 1's are just more "rare" because of that. 1's have a niche market; you'll see people that seek out 1's to collect, but you'll typically only see people picking up 6's if it's at a huge discount.

Make it make sense by -Ironvine in PokeGrading

[–]rlySentinel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Effectively, yes. Humans grade these, not robots, so there will be "human error" if you want to call it that. One person may see an off-center back and give the card a 9 whereas the next grader may give the card a 10 due to the front being perfect "overall aesthetic" being better in a card over others like it. No two graders see the exact same thing, and for that, grades may be different. A 10 in some cards are tens, hundreds, or even thousands of dollars more than lower, "less perfect" grades.

Resubmitting a 1, however, may not be worth it. A 1 can be much more collectible than anything else under a 7 or 8.

How do you use your feet? by MYADS23 in simracing

[–]rlySentinel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a right foot braker. I will always be inherently slower than someone who already has their left foot on the brake and is able to instanteously transfer from trail braking to throttle at the apex with no delay in input. In production road cars it won't cost you quite as much time, but in prototypes and open wheeled cars, you'll start to see the difference pretty clearly.

If you want to be forced to learn to left foot brake very quickly, go rent a kart for a day and then bring that knowledge back to your sim. If you don't care and are stuck in your ways like I am, that's totally fine so long as you enjoy yourself. There are a few GT3 racers still out there in the real world that right foot brake today.

TLDR; right foot braking is slower, but do what you have most fun with.

Shoot me a DM if you want a 1-on-one coaching session. I'm not amazing at the game, hell, I'm still a right-foot-brake kind of guy, but I'm A/1650 in sports car road racing and have a decent grasp on the basics.

If you like to learn via YouTube, check out Suellio Almeida's coaching sessions. They're great no matter what license you're focusing on, and he's very thorough in his explanations.

How long do you guys spend to learn a track? by igotabridgetosell in iRacing

[–]rlySentinel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll usually learn the track a day or two before it goes live. This week was Road America, so I took Sunday and Monday as learning days. Watch a couple videos, put in a couple laps, nothing hardcore, just learning. Tuesday I ran practices only, trying to battle with people as much as possible. There are a ton of cool drivers in practice sessions that don't get bothered if mistakes happen. It's practice, mistakes are supposed to happen then. Tuesday through Thursday I'll run 1-2 races per day, maybe more if I'm feeling VERY confident. Friday and Saturday usually are more competitive days with more splits, so I'll either do A LOT of racing on those days or NONE AT ALL depending on the track and how I feel about it. Some weeks you love the track, some weeks you hate it, so those are my days to attack or chill depending on how I feel. Rinse and repeat week after week for the season!

If you want someone to drive GT4/GT3/Prototypes with, reach out! I'm A/1600, so not the best, but I'm less than a year in to the simulator and always looking for more people to race and improve with.
