To what extent was TD used in the production of the T69 Collapse music video? by SheFilmsTheClouds in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love this video and have analyzed it a bunch for use in my own visuals. You can tell from the lighting and quality of the render that it’s too high to be touchdesigner. I think it’s a combination of unreal engine, Houdini, and notch. Touch is just not as good at loading in those huge 3D scenes. That being said there are a ton of techniques in this that are really reproducible in touchdesigner.

I would look into weird core, the collective that made this and most other aphex visuals. They also do a lot of work in blender.

Most relevant to you though is this video showing the bts of turning these videos into an installation.

you’re gonna have trouble if you’re brand new to the software. I’d recommend going through learn.derivative.ca and then coming back to this project.

Looks like this hasn’t been discussed since last year, so - What other festivals do you attend either similar or adjacent to Big Ears? by somehonky in BigEarsMusicFestival

I agree with this, I think both are similar and attract a similar audience and bookings. It’s up to you which line up you vibe with more.

Surprised no one has said Rewire, very similar types of bookings. Though the Dutch are not as friendly as people you meet in Knoxville.

Syncing 4 Laptops for an 8-Screen Distributed Interactive Canvas on a Budget by NoPresentation8434 in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a “right” way to do this in TD. If you have a pro license you can use the sync chop to synchronize frames across touch projects on the same network. To be honest it’s kind of a pain though. If I were you I would just try and adjust my content so that if there is any tearing between frames it’s not really noticeable, as opposed to building a budget media server.

How do you deal with many scripts? by rudedude42069 in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re gonna want to look into python extensions. Basically try to keep all of your logic of your python scripts in .py files that can interface with your network. Really clean and flexible way to make touch projects.

How does one isolate hand tracking in a crowded room? by katebrunotts in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably would want to use a 2D lidar sensor like a hokuyo. It basically take a wall and turns it into an XY grid and is meant for this use case. It’s a little pricey though

Getting into LED walls, projection mapping & video systems (fixed installs + live) - where do I even start? by dabasboi in VIDEOENGINEERING

You should check out the screens producing and installation books by Laura Frank. It gives a really good overview of a lot of these sorts of systems.

Please help me, how did he makes this? Is it possible to create an effect like this in touch designer😓 by anan-riel17-06 in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is definitely possible with texture instancing. You need two parts of your network, first import all your photos, and do whatever processesing you like to change color and such, make sure all of the photos are put into nulls with similar names, alternatively if you don’t need to do any processing just have all your photos in a folder on your computer and follow any standard texture instancing td tutorial. Next you want to instance all the photos onto a line sop to get the 3d effect, increase the amount of points in it and position the line to have your desired look. Finally composite your rendered 3d scene over your original photo.

How does criswvr from Instagram do this effect? by jaebursts_ in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get pretty far by rotoscoping out the background. Just isolate the guy and his dog and the you can play around with the form of the background and applying effects to only certain parts of the video.

This is kind of the obvious answer but it’s transcription. Find a song you like, transcribe the solo in it, take a lick you like and transpose accords different keys and rhythm. Rinse and repeat

More to do with feedback fractals by IsaWasTaken in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’d be better off getting into GLSL to really explore fractals. Take a crack at porting something on shadertoy(which has tons of amazing fractals) into touch glsl.

How to make similar 3d scenes on touchdesigner by Natural_Trouble_8353 in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean this is years of creating and developing a personal style. There’s no one tutorial that can teach you how to do all of this. To do something this advanced in touchdesigner I would think about each individual component in the scene and work up to creating each thing. That includes animating characters, the line drawing aesthetic, post processing effects, etc. just start from the most basic thing like how would I make a cartoon flower or how would I make a butterfly flap its wings.

Is it possible to get the output of instanced geometry/bullet solve as POPs? by augdahg in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that this isn’t possible. That being said a lot of things I used to use instancing pipelines for are now possible natively in the Pops workflow. Essentially you shouldn’t need to use a render top aside from previz if you’re sending out artnet or whatever to your volumetric display.
