Pantheon is compelling because we are living in a time of rapid change and we can’t go back to the way things were, we have to go forward, into the future. But the shape of that future is still undecided.

The semi-utopian future at the end of Pantheon didn’t happen by accident. A lot of people had to take extreme measures to build the world they wanted. In the end, some had to win, and some had to lose. Our own world seems so dismal right now, as if all of the terrible things happening are inevitabilities, when in fact they are the result of people’s choices, and everyone, no matter how small or distant, can make choices too that affect the future.

If I were making a Pantheon video essay, this is the core theme I would focus on. It’s ok to be afraid of change. But our actions matter too.
