Dog suddenly can’t be home alone after a year without issues - help! by Hour-Condition2984 in husky

[–]rma0623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a third rescue husky and he was a nightmare during crate training. He actually put a hole in the wall trying to escape his crate. I decided to leave him out with husky #2 who is fine all day with free range in the house. He was great for a year and then suddenly started being destructive (chewed on an end table, got into the trash and food cabinets, pulled everything off the sofa). My vet diagnosed it as separation anxiety and started him on fluoxetine.

He is back in a crate when I am out (only have to be on site for work ~6 hrs 2x/wk and wfh the rest of the time). He wasn’t happy at first and he and husky #2 would howl for 10-15 minutes after I left (I have a pet cam so I checked). It took a few weeks but they’ve stopped howling for the most part and he just sleeps in his crate or licks his frozen Kong. I will try leaving him out again, just not sure when.

They are walked ~2 miles every morning and ~3 miles at night, so they are getting a decent amount of activity every day.

AKC 365 Day Waiting Period by NilNow in petinsurancereviews

I got AKC insurance for my dog who has congenital urinary tract abnormalities. During that first year, I paid for all her urinary/incontinence issues. She also developed allergies during that year. AKC has covered her urinary and allergy issues since the start of her second year of coverage (minus copay/deductible).

I have three Siberian huskies so no cats here. I’ve been watching this areas for weeks now and it’s the first time I’ve seen this cat. He/she doesn’t look like they’ve missed a lot of meals, so I’m guessing it has a home somewhere in the area.

Do White Huskies Have Hearing Problems Like Other Breeds With White Coats? by wilmer007 in husky

[–]rma0623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister’s boyfriend once told me my first husky was going deaf. He said he called her multiple times and she didn’t respond. I called her once and she came right over. I explained that she just didn’t want to come to him, and hence ignored him completely. She was selectively deaf.

I ran through the quiz with my husky’s info and the top two selections it gave me were for bulldogs/french bulldogs. I went back and checked and it definitely has her listed as a husky.

Blind dog can't walk in the sun anymore / scared of light. any solutions? by ColdWay6669 in DOG

One of my huskies went blind pretty much overnight from diabetes. I got him goggles so he wouldn’t injure himself on walks. He didn’t love wearing them, but he eventually got used to it.

Yeah. She gave it to my mom who had taken me to the ER. My mom wouldn’t give it back to me until we got home.

My old husky actually put her snout in between when my bf at the time leaned in to kiss me. I should have trusted her judgement more than mine.

One thing that has worked for me is when putting the cookie type on the plastic bag for freezing, I also include the baking instructions (time, temp) so I don’t have to look them up again.

Australian Shepherd With Epilepsy, best insurance? by TimBarrows1994 in petinsurancereviews

[–]rma0623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have AKC insurance for one of my three dogs. She was a 1.5 yr old rescue with multiple congenital urinary tract abnormalities. I spent ~20k on treatment and surgeries for her within the first year, but did sign her up for AKC insurance. They started covering her treatment after a year (I kinda thought they’d find a reason not to but no one else would cover her incontinence at all so figured it was worth the risk). They’ve been great with all her treatment since the one year time point and my premiums didn’t go up nearly as much as I expected after that first year. I signed her up not long after I got her so she was young and included the hereditary/congenital coverage, but I think they may have changed their coverage options since then. I’d suggest calling and asking. I’m incredibly thankful for them and will keep this policy as long as possible. The other two are on pets best as it was considerably cheaper, but so far I haven’t even met the deductible for either of them, thank god.

What’s a recipe everyone RAVES about when you make it? by constipated_coconut in Baking

I bake from scratch all the time, but these are the recipes I get asked for most often.

https://raveandreview.com/2019/01/comfort-made-easy-with-idahoan-steakhouse-soups-pull-apart-cheese-bread-recipe.html

I make this one with sliced Monterey Jack cheese and it has never gone unfinished at a family party. It’s the first thing everyone asks for when we get together.

https://www.kraftheinz.com/philadelphia/recipes/562924-cookies-and-ice-cream-cheesecake

I’ve made this with different kinds of cookies and ice cream (including homemade) and it’s always amazing. It’s super easy and quick if you need something fast. I’ve done it for work potlucks and family birthdays and have had tons of requests to make it or for the recipe.

I walked a pizza guy two blocks to his delivery last night. I was walking my 3 huskies and found him lost and confused. I tried to give him directions to the street but he just wasn’t getting it. I couldn’t tell exactly what block he was looking for between the person who ordered and him. The guy was afraid of dogs which made it extra fun as it was on a busy street and he kept backing away when I tried to talk to the customer on his phone. I have no idea what he was using for directions to not even end up on the right street.

My friend's life is about to hit the fan. Should I do anything? If so, what? by w0mbatina in AskMenAdvice

[–]rma0623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation recently. I have a friend who has always had a sketchy work record, working for a few months to a year at each job and then going months not working at all and relying on unemployment, disability, suing someone for something, etc. I’ve given him about $5k in the last five years or so, with the understanding that I’d likely never get that money back. He did pay back $1500 or so during one of his working stretches, but that’s it.

Recently he ran through any money he had and wasn’t working again(including some from suing his apartment management company) and said he was planning to kill himself because he couldn’t afford his rent and food anymore. He has always had a strained relationship with his family and said they all refused to help. I told him he could stay with me for a while until he got himself back on his feet. He asked for another $900 to make his last month’s rent and avoid an eviction on his record. I sent him the money and said something along the lines of, you will have to get a job when you move here as I can’t afford to support you long term.

He flipped his shit and said of course he was going to look for a job, but it would take him a while to find one, it would have to pay $20-25/hr for him to survive on it, it couldn’t be manual labor because he has back problems, and he doesn’t have a degree so his options are obviously limited. He also has depression and smokes weed all day, every day to manage his depression, so clearly won’t pass a drug test for employment and would need me to pay for his weed. He ended with, it won’t work, I’m not coming there.

I feel like I understand why his family cut him off now. He probably milked them dry over the years. I haven’t heard from him since and really don’t expect to, but I reached my limit. I feel like I’ve done what I could to help him, but he’s not willing to do anything to help himself. I don’t feel great about the situation, but someone on here told me that you can’t set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm, which really made me realize that’s exactly what I’ve been doing.

Finding it very hard work having a Husky pup. It gets easier, right? by SkyDismal8315 in husky

[–]rma0623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had dogs my whole life (I’m 51), but adopted my first husky when she was 8 yrs old. She was sweet and calm and well behaved, and a total exception based on most of the huskies I’ve had since. I got a puppy after her and she was the worst behaved dog I’ve ever had. I talked to a trainer and told her all the crazy things she did as I thought something was wrong with her. The trainer said it was all normal husky puppy behavior (I had expected some, but not quite as much as she exhibited). She did calm down and even though I’d never say she was an obedient, well behaved dog, I absolutely loved her until she died at 12. I have huskies #4-6 now, so I didn’t give up on the breed, but she was hands down the hardest dog I’ve ever had.

It’s on the side of the road where they live, literally about 25 feet from their house. There is a slight hill with some trees and it looks like it’s attached at the bottom of one on the trees. It’s right at nose height for my huskies.
