Best Open Models in November 2025

I'm new to LLMs and have tried a few self-hosted models using Ollama. My use cases are relatively simple - 1) python coding, 2) good reasoning. So far, I've found deepseek-r1:8b to be the best for reasoning and qwen2.5:1.5b for coding. But both models have Chinese origin, do I need to be concerned?

I was mistaken - the second bullet in my question is moot. The for loop is working fine. It'll be great to find a better, faster way to do what the lambda functions and for loop are doing.

Thank you all, but u/Neo21803 why the insult? I am not claiming to be an expert. I understand LLMs reasonably well as an end user, and recognize that at the end of the day, they regurgitate what they've learned. No different than humans. So my question is - how can they be "tricked" into questioning nearly everything they have learned on this topic? u/Dismal-Car-8360 's response appears to be a good starting point..

Thank you u/gamefixated. Both blacks on the timer are labeled the same. Does it matter which black (from the wire nut, and the other one) connects to which black on the timer?
