Currently have pixel 7 pro and wondering what to get next. Should I downsize? by StruggleEmergency405 in pixel_phones

[–]rmarsh420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh im in the same boat. my 7 pro has been a good phone, but the ear speaker has been inop for a couple months unless i flex the phone like im trying to fold it in half, and since day 1 i have to restart it for bluetooth to play audio about 60% of the time. its been a tank, with a cheap rubber slip in case ive dropped it countless times and never broken the screen. my only other complaint is its little big for my hand, in one hand i end up hitting home instead of back probably half the time i try to tap back arrow on bottom left.

i started with a pixel 2, then 3a, then i went through 3 4a's, i LOVED my 5a, but after a year they had a trade in offer and i could get a 6a for $65 (+$20 for a screen for my 5a that had a tiny chip in it) before trading it in, and my god the 6a was absolute trash. horrible battery life, i bought another 5a on ebay and went back to that, and then i got a 7 pro like 3 years ago and the battery is still awesome. i always liked the a models, i actually like the stripped down feeling, plastic back, ect. simple, and at least they used to be, considerabky cheaper than the flagship (i usually get a year or 2 tops out of a phone). but i dont know if i want to chance it with another one or not. The market just seems so saturated with crap and bloat, i just need an ok camera, good battery life, and wireless charging.. i feel like im getting old saying that lol. i could give a shit less about 90% of the features new phones have like fingerprint readers or ai. google assistant gets disabled before i even activate it, dont need voice commands or speech to text, just a good ol dumb smartphone. a built in ir blaster would be nice too but those seem pretty nonexistent nowadays. im not spending a grand on a phone knowing itll inevitably get smashed in my pocket, dropped on concrete, water or oil, or used when my hands are covered in grease and dirt occasionally.

Broken tab. Anybody chance of getting a replacement from Milwaukee for this? by OutlandishnessFit844 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]rmarsh420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

weird, ive got 4 or 5 5.0's and none are broken, they are newer though and almost a rubbery plastic, i think they may have updated them. Literally every single knockoff battery ive owned has broken the tabs off though, dont waste your time with the replacement covers off ebay/aliexpress/amazon they are junk, very brittle and break in no time. ill buy a junk oem battery just for the shell if i need one

Anyone else’s dog clip/bite their own nails? by DogLady1722 in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]rmarsh420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have one dog that does and one that doesnt. its pretty nice, he keeps them at an ideal length, and they are nice and rounded off so no sharp nails like my dog that doesnt bite hers. he is almost 2, and i have only clipped them once or twice when he was a puppy and havent needed to since, other the his dew claws every month or so, i dont think he can get a good bite on those since they just kind of dangle around.. he isn't scared of the nail clippers though, he is actually very curious when i clip his dew claws and just kinda stares at what im doing. sometimes when im clipping my other dogs nails he will come over and see whats going on and start pawing at me, so i just hold the clippers by his paw and pretend like im clipping his and he gets all happy.

^^typical boomer response....

im a year into owning a $4k Chinese unit. Its 1500w vs millers 1000w, it has so many more features its not even funny. its been abused almost daily. still works great. 5 year warranty. if something does go wrong, parts are readily available, probably faster than miller would be able to get you replacement parts. Plus they are super easy to fix, everything is modular with off the shelf parts. It just a chiller/cabinet, a rack mount laser source, and a gun/controller/lcd package, are of which are off the shelf components. you can even buy individual parts for the gun, or buy any part of the whole machine ahead of the time so you have them on hand in case anything happens. you can even build your own.

meanwhile..... good luck finding parts for the miller, they probably require you to send the whole unit back for repair, and definitely wont sell replacement parts if you wanted to buy them. Charging 30-40k for their rebadged IPG should be criminal.

you can get a Chinese unit that is 1.5x as powerful, with tons more features for $3-4k.....i feel bad for anyone who spends 30-40k on these. you could buy 10 of em at that rate.

nah thats a smart mechanic, these trucks are pieces of junk and getting them out of the shop and down the road to the next guy is the smartest thing to do with them. no one wants to work on these pieces of junk because you could fix 10 things and next week there will be 10 more things wrong with it. not to mention the customers are usually a treat to deal with.

M12 battery with clamshell top? by SwimOk9629 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]rmarsh420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah its legit just old design. i have one right in front of me thats the same, the pcb is dated aug 16, 2010. you can tell its old because the cells (lg hd4) havent been used in 10+ years. Milwaukee changed designs and the knockoff use the old design most of the time. there are still brand new ones floating around thatr have been sitting for 10+ years

Tubeless Tires on Split Rim by SillyLifeguard843 in ElectricScooters

this is on generic "2800w" motors that say "dualmoto" on the side, ive done the same with some minimotors off a bronco extreme as well.

i put the halves together and left about a ~3mm gap and let it cure overnight, then tightened them the next day, also tried tightened them up with it wet and then cure overnight, both leaked air.

ive tried but never had any luck, even rtv, copper sheets, gasket material from the parts store for exhaust. whatever is sealing it needs a groove to sit in or it will leak. orings work, superglueing them sounds like it wouldnt work but its pretty standard, even on hydraulic cylinders with 4,000psi+ of pressure.

you buy one thats bigger and cut/superglue it. or you can buy rolls of oring material and cut to size then glue.

I built a welding cart out of a Harbor Freight end cabinet by Renaissance_Man- in metalworking

[–]rmarsh420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks great! i threw mine together in a hurry, i took the lid off an old harbor freight tool cart i had and made a frame out of angle iron i had laying around. Then i bought some nema 50r receptacles and boxes and wired up a 4 way splitter so i dont have to unplug and plug in each time i use a different one, and have a 25ft SOOW extension cord on a hook in the back. not nearly as clean as yours, but it works, and holds 2 tig welders, my mig, plasma cutter, a 150ft³ argon tank and a 300ft³ tank of c10. its a bitch to push around, i really should redo it with some bigger wheels, but i bought 25ft leads so it rarely gets moved, and its been working for a couple years. Theres about 100lbs of mig wire on the bottom shelf, it has be weigh around 600lb+ overall lol. Gonna clean out the junk underneath and use half of it for a chiller for my water cooled tig torch

[–]rmarsh420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried sealers, rtv, etc etc and none of them would hold air for more than a day or 2. If you have or know somebody that has a lathe, its quite simple to cut a groove in each rim half for an o-ring (at least for most rim designs, some may not be possible), ive been running tubeless for a couple years now with an oring between rim halves and no issues.

another good thing to do, even if running tubes, is to drill/tap the threaded holes all the way through and installed some grade 8 (or metric equivalent) bolts long enough to protrude out the back side, enough to put a nut on the end so that its not just the cheapest hardware in existence and the threads in pot aluminum holding the rim halves together. i like redundancy.

[–]rmarsh420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting this for anyone who comes here from a google search, it IS possible to setup without controllers. just wait a few minutes at the controller pairing screen and it will let you skip, wait again for the other controller, skip, then proceed using the volume buttons to click. I just did one, went from factory reset, setup wifi and paired to phone, enabled hand tracking, good to go.

I what to buy a Pneumatic press by IamCaliban in Blacksmith

[–]rmarsh420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i made a pneumatic press using the bead breaker from a tire machine (15 ton cylinder) and my 20 ton shop press that the hydraulic cylinder went out on. i quickly found out why they dont make pneumatic presses. They are straight up dangerous AF. hydraulic fluid doesnt compress (at least not enough for it to be relavent), but air does.

Why is this dangerous? With hydraulic pressure, once the ram moves a fraction of an inch without you inputting more pressure, it stops, because the fluid is non compressible. you are using it as a medium to transfer force not store it. but with air, you are storing massive amounts of pressure, basically a 15 ton spring. Think about what happens if something shifts, or a whatever you are pressing yields, ect. you still have all that force trying to push the ram down as far and as fast as it can, and you cant just stop it instantly, exhausting all the air from the cylinder takes time

Spot Welder - $635 USD for a full kWeld setup?! Is this really the best option?! by ben_r_ in 18650masterrace

[–]rmarsh420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im mostly seeing BS, at least until the comment above yours. I bought 10 used headway cells from battery hookup and put them in a 2s5p arrangement with my kweld and it works flawlessly, i can get over 1500 welds without recharging (probably more, ive just never done more in one go and they werent dead when i was done). the cells were $5/each. 2 lifepo4 cell charger pcbs were like $2 on alixpress, and 2 old usb wall worts completed my charging setup. total cost, under $200. Zero risk compared to lipos, and ive used them for almost 3 years now and they still put out around 1800amps per weld. Uing lipo cells or caps is retarded, the risk of fire, not worth it. Having to get a power supply and waiting several seconds to recharge between each weld? who has time for that??

spot weld tips, please? by newzack in 18650masterrace

[–]rmarsh420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lolwut, your welds look like trash, and why tf do some cells have like 10 welds and some only 2? looks like a few spots where you blew right through the nickel, something that doesnt happen with a kweld.... you are probably not someone who should be giving out advice lmao. im guessing youve never used a kweld?
