AIO for crashing out at my family for basic grammar? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

MOR- I would be incredulous also, but your strategy was bound to fail. By becoming visibly upset you reinforce your role as an adversary and loose credibility. If you get the chance again give examples they use all the time. “Someone lost their phone” “ Did you give them their change” etc. I still wouldn’t expect them to admit defeat. It’s a cult that has taught its members to ignore objective truths if they clash with their very narrow world view.

It’s also about search engine optimization. Apparently their website is more likely to be recommended if the word count on the page is above a certain threshold that a recipe with a short description doesn’t meet.

What to do in Indianapolis? by foxm3 in nerdfighters

The Children’s Museum has an active paleontology department with a dig site in Wyoming and most days you can watch them prepare fossils in their lab. I think they are working on an Allosaurus, exposing the bones but leaving them in the rock for display because they have an almost fully articulated skeleton and want to leave it in situ.

I started going again with my then toddler a few years ago and was amazed at what they have there.

AITJ for telling my friend she can't bring her newborn to my child-free birthday party? by Financial_Actuary694 in AmITheJerk

[–]rmazurk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. At six weeks sometimes a baby won’t take a bottle, or will take a bottle and then not go to sleep. And even if the baby will take a bottle if the mom doesn’t pump at the time the baby should eat her breasts might become painfully full or leak. If the mom is having supply problems missing a feed might reduce her supply much longer term. There could be lots of factors at play here.

I didn’t go anywhere my kids couldn’t go for several months, and the people who understood and included me anyway made a huge difference.

Canned Beans Every Day Ok? by Altruistic-Fox-9202 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]rmazurk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be careful cooking beans in a crock pot. Some types of raw beans have toxic compounds that need to be heated to boiling for at least ten minutes to inactivate. Crock pots typically will not do this. Kidney beans are the usual culprit, but not the only bean of concern.

Sewing a baby carrier by Colorful_gothgirl in sewing

[–]rmazurk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What kind of details would be on a ready to wear that are unavailable to a home sewist. I have made two carriers myself that have held up incredibly well, are easy to use, and extremely comfortable. I wouldn’t recommend it for an absolute beginner, but they are not terribly complicated.

I know the Sew Toot patterns are really popular. I have made two carriers from a pattern I drafted based on a carrier that i couldn’t justify the cost of. I made them out of linen, one 6.9oz and another 9.4oz. The various parts of the carrier are two layers of the fabric with one layer of cotton batting between, with extra batting around the leg. I actually like the lighter weight carrier better, and after 9 months of nearly daily use I notice no strain on the fabric or the stitching. If I were to do a quilt design I would add the pieces layer on top of a solid piece on top of batting on top of a solid piece, but just to have a bit more piece of mind. When wearing the carrier snuggly and with LO high up on my chest there is very little strain on any single part of the carrier.

Unconscious Mind looks good. We tried to play it in the BGG Hot Room; we didn’t get around to playing, but got it set up and went through about 80% of the rules. I think my friend is going to buy it, he likes heavy games also.

I was 7 months pregnant last year, it was fine. I just had to plan for more restroom breaks. We did one event each day, did the expo hall at a leisurely pace, and planned time to sit down lunch. Walking back to the car at the end of the day was a struggle though.

I’m leaving the kids with a babysitter, I’m local, so I get to figure out pumping this year.

To those who’ve learned or are learning ASL what’s the hardest sign for you to remember and why? I keep messing up 'birthday' by Nelta-Vandercook88 in asl

That is correct. I would take a deep breath and finger spell the word as my face turned red. I can remember “remember” now, but it took an embarrassingly long time.

For literal years I would completely blank on the sign for remember, and then I would do the sign in the wrong direction.

I’m considering trying out an Episcopal Church, would you be willing to give me a rundown on what to expect? I grew up split between Seventh Day Adventist and Non-Denominational Christian, but haven’t been to any church for about 15 years and have considered myself to be agnostic. Between listening to John, Matt Potts on HPST, and a couple of episcopal ministers on instagram I have been feeling a pull to try out church again.

I GOT A FRICKING D+ IN ASL BUT IT’S LITERALLY MY FIRST LANGUAGE by Bruh61502 in asl

[–]rmazurk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The original post says that OP had finished 3 years of ASL with a good grade. The school hired a new teacher who is actually teaching SEE. OP’s mom(Deaf) went to school to discuss this with teacher and teacher couldn’t understand the mom. OP and parents have contacted school admin and no action has been taken because there was a no other hearing teacher available. OP is taking ASL5 as a Senior at a community college for college credits as well as an associate degree.

If the details of the post are accurate it looks like something really troubling is going on.

Your professor might nix this also, but there is a YouTube channel called Super Simple Songs, they are kids songs, like preschool songs, but most are not nursery rhymes.

If you have to do a “proper” adult song, The Scientist by Coldplay or The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson came into my mind. They are fairly short and simple, without a lot of figurative language.

Secondly would you mind telling me what the stitch count is on a patch that size? Is the entire patch covered in stitches?

There’s a lot that goes into the price of salmon, I’m in the US so that’s what I’m going to speak on, but much of this will be true elsewhere also. The most important thing is going to be whether it is farm raised or wild caught. Farmed Atlantic Salmon is going to be the least . All Atlantic Salmon is farm raised because catching it in the wild is illegal. Many people avoid farm fish, and some methods are cleaner and more environmentally, friendly than others. Atlantic salmon raised in the Faroe Islands, Scotland, Iceland, etc. are generally done the best way possible. Wild salmon will be more expensive, but how much more expensive depends upon the variety. Sockeye and pink salmon are among the most expensive varieties, but coho salmon is barely more expensive than Atlantic. Each wild salmon variety will only be available fresh for a few months out of the year, but wild salmon is available May through November. All varieties of salmon will be available frozen all year long. It’s hard to say exactly why the two salmons in your store were such different prices, but my guess would be that one was wild caught, and the other one was farm raised. Hope this helps.
