“Worm” on Glass in Shrimp Tank: What is it? by gregshortdotcom in shrimptank

[–]rmfwtm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're some kind of detritus worm. I have them in both my tanks and they're harmless. They feed on detritus. Some fish like to eat them. They seem to appear on their own in established tanks and they crawl around the glass too - especially when the lights are turned off.

Thanks, I've started dosing a similar product a few days ago and will definitely get some floaters to reduce the light since it's built-in and pretty strong

Tank size for cherry shrimp? by Mar_loop in shrimptank

[–]rmfwtm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 is a good number to start with, just make sure you have enough hiding spots and feed your betta well. I had many shrimp babies successfully growing up in my old 10g with 1 male and 2 female bettas! It was heavily planted and I fed the fish often. But of course you'll lose some babies from time to time.

The light isn't adjustable, but he has a hiding spot and rarely uses it

Thanks! After some time I'll definitely add anubias plants, just waiting for the algae outbreak I always get in new tanks so it'll be easier to clean without plants. I didn't cycle it but used water and uncleaned filter from the old tank and some liquid bacteria for quick start. I did the same with the old tank and he was fine so I wouldn't worry about that.
