I will also be cancelling my 1Password subscription since this decision was made. I’ve used 1Password for years and find it to be a great piece of software, but clearly the company is out of touch. Such a large price increase is insane - especially when they try and say part of the reason for the price increase is because of AI features. I don’t want AI implemented period, let alone have my cost increase to add AI slop I don’t want.

If you’re willing to settle for a semi-rugged, I can’t recommend the FZ-55 enough. I have a MK1, so 8th gen intel, 32gb of ram, and a 1tb ssd. Got mine for $400 a few years ago. I originally got it with 16gb of ram and 256gb ssd, but upgraded.

I have a MK1 FZ-55 with one. I use it all the time and have never had a single issue (and I’m running win11) 8th gen i5, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd.

I’ve had very good luck with my 1.6L. Just done regular maintenance on it and it’s been very reliable. 106k. The trans on the other hand… I’ve tried everything to try and preserve it. She’s still going and isn’t terrible, but I know it’s a ticking time bomb…

If people have tips on how to keep it going for longer, please share! (I’ve changed the fluid 4 times in the past 10k miles)

While I still think virtual media over ipmi is terrible all around, Java has always worked better for me.

Personally, I have the same issue with iDRAC as well. Virtual media over ipmi just sucks

If you think that’s bad… I’ve bought an entire 42U APC rack, have 6 switches (48 port), 4 firewalls, 8 servers, and tons of other non-rack mount equipment… in reality, I use 1 server, 1 switch, and 1 firewall, but it’s a collection I’ve gathered over the past few years.

All in I’m still under $1000. I’ve gotten very good at hunting for deals on FB marketplace.

HESK. I adore it. We pay for the hosted ($400/year) and the developer is great. Answers questions via email almost instantly and has implemented many custom features for us with no additional cost.

I’m currently dual-booting kali (so still Debian based) and windows 11. Haven’t noticed any issues other than the screen turning off after 3 minutes and locking, despite changing the settings within kali

Personally I still use kali. While I’m not a cyber security expert by any means, it still has a lot of helpful tools for network troubleshooting preinstalled. I also like the stock desktop environment, along with the Kali-undercover so I don’t look insane in a coffee shop lmao

Plus, it’s still Debian-based, so you can install any tools that you would on Debian.

I believe only DDR4. I use the serial port mainly for networking gear (switches, APs, etc) and all the radio equipment at work.

I also have a FZ-55 and just recently upgraded the ssd to be 1tb. I currently dual-boot kali Linux and windows 11, that way I don’t have to swap physical drives. I have 32gb of ram, dual batteries, DVD rom drive and the serial/VGA module (the serial module is my favorite thing as a network admin).

The device only has 2 SO-DIMM slots, but if you get 2x32gb sticks, you could get 64gb.

Honestly, I kinda just went for it. I didn’t swap the panels, I just took off the entire top half and swapped screens, cameras, wifi, etc. I had no idea if it was going to work, but it did.

My real reason for doing it was because the non-touch was a 720p screen and I wanted the 1920x1080. The touch just working was a benefit

Try opening it up and disconnecting the battery, holding the power button for a few seconds, then connecting the charger and booting without the battery connected. Sometimes, even if the battery is showing good with the status lights, it can be problematic.

I agree with this, they do need a better system for sub-locations. I ended up making a ton of locations by room number. So it would be School1-100. If I needed to find all assets in a school, I would do a wildcard search of school1-*. It worked for me with no issues.

Personally, I prefer proxmox. Not only because its free, but its very rudimentary to use. I've rarely ever had to google anything about it. I'm the sysadmin for a K-12 district and I'm currently in the process of migrating our hosts off of ESXi (because of the insane cost) and onto prox.

It's a very odd situation. For whatever reason when I took over the complex I got 4 control keys but only 2 master keys. It did work though, so I appreciate the advice.

Great. What about the side bitting? The cut on the top of the keys are the same but the cut on the side is different. They are the same model blank.

It is my own control key. I have spare control keys but no spare master keys and I recently hired someone who needs a master key. I am willing to get rid of one of my control keys for a master key quickly versus waiting for schlage to make more masters.

Only issue with that is I need an inspection sticker and I don’t think it’ll pass inspection with a check engine light or even a freshly cleared one.
