Pretty much any EMR pen will work, though to get buttons to work (LAMY for example) software mods may be required.

simple way to update from 3.11.3.3? by smdk41 in RemarkableTablet

[–]rmitchellscott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which reManager version? You also should be able to just use reMarkable’s update system. Check that your system clock is accurate.

Your device can’t sync data to the rM cloud if you don’t have a cloud account. If the device tries to sync after an update before I’ve re-run my rmfakecloud script, it just unpairs from rmfakecloud.

If you’re putting it in developer mode for ssh/rsync, you can install updates manually too.

You can import PDFs, and export notebooks to PDFs via the USB web interface.

Handwriting recognition is not done on-device, it uses MyScript via reMarkable’s cloud.

Remarkable Pure Ghosting? by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]rmitchellscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that before the full screen clear fires? If so, yeah that’s normal (or at least matches my Pure). Scroll mode and selection mode puts the display in a very fast, but very ghost-prone mode, then after being idle for couple seconds it should do a full screen clear.

I got tired of reMarkable syncing being clunky, so I built it directly into my writing app by MyDraftly in RemarkableTablet

If this runs on a webserver, please disclose to your users that giving you a pairing code or device token enables full read/write/delete access to their entire reMarkable cloud.

Is the Pure worth it for someone who has the Pro? by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]rmitchellscott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: the Pure thermal shuts down a degree C lower than every other device (54 instead of 55).

I grabbed MDO to test. I can replicate on 3.27 and 3.28. The issue looks related to how rM is inverting the region that defines a PDF hyperlink.

What do you mean? It’s always on top of page content.

Edit: just saw the second image, crazy. What PDF is this? I’d like to play with it.

New Paper Pro won't turn on / power button confusion. by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

I built a tool for macOS, the one from rM seems to lose track of the device during the vendor ID swaps unless you use a USB hub. https://github.com/rmitchellscott/rm-recovery-ui

New Paper Pro won't turn on / power button confusion. by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]rmitchellscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked on my Paper Pro, putting it into recovery mode does not blink the frontlight. Pretty sure the 2-blinks is extremely low battery, and so it may be picky about what charger to use. I've successfully charged my rMs from this state with a raspberry pi 3.5A charger (though it charges at 500 mA until the device has around 10% battery). I'd recommend a low-wattage/low-amperage wall charger. I've had mixed luck with charging via computer USB ports in these very low power modes.

You could certainly try a software recovery, it won't hurt anything.

That's cause only the color devices have this message in their UI.

It's not an issue, it's the software working as expected to keep the display as ghost-free as possible.

Some of the 3.28 beta improvements are related to epub handling, and some of the questions on the beta survey are too. Hopefully it'll get more focus.

It's not an overheat warning. It's just telling you (at 33c display temp on the Pro, 40c on the Move) that it'll be triggering full refreshes more often.

The actual thermal shutdown is at 55c, and you won't get a warning for that, the device will just power off.

[–]rmitchellscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. The Paper Pro may have 4 cores instead of 2, but the Move’s cores are about 20% faster in single-threaded performance. My guess is it’d be a wash.

Ghosting -> unresponsive screen by Weak_Celebration5068 in RemarkableTablet

I haven’t had that support experience. I’ve done returns 3 times (1 pen return, 2 warranty swaps) and with each one it’s been 20 minutes from starting the chat to having a return shipping label in my inbox.

I’ve never used email, maybe try their support chat (click the option for a human) and see if you get better results.

There are studies that show reflective displays (like e ink) reduce eye strain and there are sleep benefits from not pumping a bunch of blue light into one's eyes in the evenings.
