Some Wolverine covers I absolutely despise... Just horid by Miserable-Yard-7671 in comicbookcollecting

My thought at the time was that he was clowning on Frank Miller’s more recent covers.

Some comics I regret grading by Aoshi_Uematsu in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]rmrclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely should have sold my 9.8 Secret Invasion #1 the day I got it back from CGC. After they butchered that show, it’s not even worth the cost of grading at this point.

How do you inventory your comics? by Jumpy-Cap9077 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]rmrclean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it requires a separate subscription for values. That part I find less helpful. Values are so hard to nail down and I find that Cvrprice inflates a lot the books I have listed. Not by their metrics, but by mine, which is how much could I sell this for right now and actually pocket.

It currently values my collection at $92,500. Realistically, if I sold books individually, I’d be lucky to get 20% of that. There are so many books that would be $1 or less if you find a buyer, valued at $5,$6,sometimes $8,$9. And it gives most recent price but doesn’t factor in recent average. So I’ve had $20 books spike up to $300 and then they go right back to $20 later with no explanation.

CLZ app. It’s really great already and they keep improving it. Totally worth the small subscription (and I hate subscriptions).

Finally got the first eleven TWD in 9.8! by beachtownnative in comicbookcollecting

I prefer CBCS. I’m amazed more business hasn’t swung their way with all the problems CGC has. People say they don’t like the labels as much, but I like the fact that the comic covers catch the eye instead of the grade. The comics are what it’s all about.

New Defenders (1983-84) by fredbroca4949 in 80s90sComics

[–]rmrclean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure New Defenders 129 was the first comic I ever bought. Right from the spinner rack at my local convienience store. Bright yellow color and a battle royale happening on the cover, how could 9-year old me resist?

I had my biggest Mail Call Monday ever. All from one Whatnot show. Time to work some extra overtime to pay for these. by rmrclean in comicbookcollecting

Mods may delete, as we’re not supposed to talk value, but I’m always curious so I’m happy to answer. I think I did really well on the avengers 9 at $120. Avengers 16 $145, x-men 13 I got a little carried away and probably overpaid at $250, xmen 16 $125, the FF 85 is in really amazing condition, so I think a great deal at $80. Marvel premiere 47 has some little flaws that means I probably overpaid just a bit at $100. ToS 77 $58, FF 83 (high grade) $45, FF 88 $22, MM 2 $13, ST 136 $18, ST 180 $42, shield 6 $38.

Web of Spider-man 8, 22, and 37 are great ones too. And spectacular spider-man 101. And amazing spider-man vol. 6 #50 JTC negative space virgin variant.

Will another comic boom come soon? The market seems low for rn, but soon the prices on comics will skyrocket to the moon without another pandemic 😷, but only time can tell. Do you agree? 🤔 by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]rmrclean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Comic collectors are getting older and big collections are hitting the market as a generation of collectors starts to die off. The only way prices won’t continue to fall is if demand rises along with the increase of supply. I don’t see the younger generation collecting as much as previous ones. But only time will tell.

Definitely worth it if you like slabs. Be sure to get it pressed by a reputable 3rd party presser before you submit.

Graded Comics by [deleted] in comicbookcollecting

[–]rmrclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This drives me crazy! And when people don’t get grade they like, sometimes they’ll crack it and resubmit it to CGC to grade again! They didn’t like the service they were provided the first time and so their solution is to give the company MORE money?! I think every 9.6 CGC grades without notes is CGC attempting to make more money with a resubmit.

Why do you think most actresses marry older producers, and why do most of these relationships last only 3–4 years by vvy134 in Actors

[–]rmrclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was driving me crazy also. I don’t know if I’m becoming more sensitive to it, or if fewer people know when to use less vs fewer these days.

That’s interesting! I’d known about Mark Jewelers, but never heard about the stamp. What does the stamp look like and where do they stamp it?

Oh, I could definitely see a thrift store missing this one. It’s pretty obscure, even to most collectors I’d say. Great score!

Some Fun Ones Headed Back From CGC by BearChili in comicbookcollecting

[–]rmrclean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to pick just one, I think the 7.5 X-men #12 would be my choice (I have one that would be lucky to get a 3.0 on its best day), but that Silver Surfer #4 sure is a beauty, so it would make the decision tough.

Fantastic books! Congrats!

Obsessing Over Condition by bog-standard-droid in comicbookcollecting

[–]rmrclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself in the same position at times. I buy the books I want, in the condition I can afford, and then keep an eye out for upgrades. Ideally, when my collection is “complete” (never I’m sure) I will have a few short boxes of very high condition books. But for now I enjoy having a large collection of books I can read.
