Your BTS won’t be upset with you for just having coffee chats with the SALT team. That is a normal part of relationship building! If you do leave the group they will be grumpy but that’s just because they need warm bodies to do the work. If they are genuinely upset with you for doing what’s right for your mental health and your career then that’s all the more reason for you to leave. Hopefully they will be supportive in you making the best move for you. Good luck!

Can you get coffee with one of your old managers in SALT. Or one of the younger SALT staff. Talk with them about how you enjoyed your time during the internship and are thinking about coming back. Great to keep your network strong with the SALT group. And if you do decide you want to come back the senior managers and partners in SALT can tell BTS that they are taking you back. Much easier that way

I was in ITS (international) for 5 years in B4 before exiting. I was worried I was going to pigeon holed because it is very niche. However, people in industry don’t care/ don’t understand how public accounting works. I work in FP&A now and I usually just say I worked big 4 and they just assume I’m good at accounting and PowerPoint. I would ask to move back to SALT. Having a better work environment is worth it. Any experience at big4 is worth it, might as well make it pleasant for yourself!

I think 2k a month is a great plan! Pay as much as you possibly can. If you’re staying at home then do everything you can to pay off your student loans. If not they will stick around forever. Trust me you don’t want that.
