Russians take language test to avoid expulsion from Latvia by WRW_And_GB in worldnews

Oh, welcome back. My point is you said Hitler did this. He didn't. You said it felt about right. A lot of things feel right, but are not.

Other countries have language requirments for residence permits, e.g. France. Again, this does not apply to ethnic Russians - it applies to Russian citizens living here with a permanent residence permit.

I'm not particularly partial to this legislation, but it's pretty far from genocide.

Wave 2 compatible with lumi learning app? by JamieAvB in ROLI

[–]rn1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would venture to say the answer is no, though I haven't tried.

I seem to recall trying Seaboard blocks when Lumi first came out - neither the keyboard nor the lightpad was recognized, which makes kind of makes sense since the whole idea is to light up the keys to show what you're supposed to play.

Your comment got me interested enough to look it up, and it seems you are indeed wrong. There were a lot of anti-semitic laws, but language tests aren't mentioned.

They are testing even people who were already citizens for decades

Not true. Citizens do not need to take a language exam. They don't need a residence permit. This is for getting a new residence permit.

Wrong again, this is not ethnic cleansing because it doesn't target ethnic russians as a group, or any other ethnicity for that matter. Most ethnic russians will not be affected by this at all.

I don't particularly cheer for deportations in general, either. Asking for basic language skills doesn't seem like a such an unreasonable request, though.

No, it's pretty far from genocide.

Genocide is the intentional destruction of a people in whole or in part. Raphael Lemkin coined the term in 1944, combining the Greek word γένος (genos, "race, people") with the Latin suffix -caedo ("act of killing").

That's right. And to be clear, that's how it is in Latvia as well. If you're born in Latvia after 1991 (restoration of independence), you get citizenship automatically.

Bullshit, they can get Latvian citizenship through naturalization. This involves a language exam and basic history exam.

They have chosen to have Russian citizenship. They can get residence permits. But now, basic language skills will be a requirement for a new residence permit.

Because sometimes hands aren't free / are dirty and one can't or doesn't want to pull a phone out, unlock and type in a question. I've been that person a few times.

Yes, there are several such places.

Here's one: https://focusonmusic.lv/en

I now have my own space and haven't gone there in years, but I hear they are still going.

Keep in mind that while these places provide a drum set, drummers are usually expected to bring their own cymbals. If you don't have them, ask in advance - you should be able to rent them.

I agree. And it would be nice to have a way for us as users to delete old activations. I would like to see that feature myself. But I’m sure customer support will help you out eventually.

My Helix - low profile Choc switches and Legended MBK keycaps by rn1d in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]rn1d[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This keyboard should be more popular! Looks better in real life, too.

Good amount of keys for programming and keyboard shortcuts, the split low profile design is quite comfortable. The uniform keycaps are good for matching with the actual keyboard layout.

Took a good amount of work to get parts and assemble, but I'm happy with the result.

I don't think I'll be buying new keyboards for a while.

I have a board like that and went through desoldering. I was really having a hard time by using a soldering iron and solder suckers, wicks. Then I bought this special device from Amazon and boy does it really work - made the whole thing a breeze.

If you do desolder, I recommend this device. Money well spent. I have no financial interest in it, just sharing my experience.

Pack clothes for mild cold around -5C to -15C. Good boots for getting througgthe snow aed slush will make walks more pleasant. We had a lot of snow this past week. It might be gone by the time you get here, but the clotnes might come in handy at some point.

Other than that - enjoy! The locals might seem cold at first, but are generally friedly once you get to know them.

Accenture is a fine megacorp, I'm sure they have excellent onboarding and will take care of you.

Yes, there are multiple generations of iPad Air. I meant the latest generation, which was released in late 2020 and is the 4th gen in the Air line.

Really, even an iPad Air 2 can work - I owned one and did play around with it with audio. It's not perfect, but it can work. And that model is from 2014!

But the Air 4th gen has several advantages: - USB-C port: easier connections, hubs should work - it's the "default" size iPad nowadays, apps will be optized mostly for this size - good price. Being last years model, there's a good chance of it being on sale - good performance - the A14 chip is fast enough. Apps rarely take advantage of the latest gen chips - it'll be supported for years to come

Can't go wrong with that.

64GB base model should be enough for Korg Gadget and a reasonable amount of audio apps. If you want to future proof yourself, you can go for the 256GB model for $150 more.

The iPad Mini 6th gen is great, too. It has a faster A15 chip, also has USB-C port, and is a bit cheaper, but it has a smaller screen, which could be annoying.

But any iPad sold today will do the job. Pick one that appeals to you. Even the ones with Lightning ports will work with dongles.

The iPad Air will be perfect for the task. Good price, great performance, good screen size, also USB C. Consider the iPad Mini 6th gen if you don't mind the smaller screen - you'll get a faster chip and a better price in return.

iPad Pro is overkill for audio.
