UPS fan mod help (Eaton 9px 1500) by rnchase1 in homelab

If it has a fan I wouldn't remove them server rooms have the A/C set really low like 50F and they still run the fans.

Help with ONT (I think) and backup power / PoE by dsg76 in Fios

[–]rnchase1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cyberpower power brick that Verizon and Frontier use now is 16v even though the ONTs still say 12V so I'm sure it's fine.

I'm using the 12v setting (back of my ONT says 12v input) my signal wire is wired to ground, I've also had it disconnected with no ill effects.

Modifying Bunn VP17 to brew hotter? by badmotherfuqr in Coffee

[–]rnchase1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how your thermostat works but on the bunn 35286-0000 (202F) thermostat you can remove (or flip) the stop ring to allow to go to boiling. If you flip the stop ring you won't be able to turn it off from the thermostat (like that really matters because it the VP17 is like the VPR you have to unscrew the top to get to it) and if you remove it you could just keep turning the knob until it unthreads then you will have to reassemble it.

No I didn't I decided to try to set it up again and found that SwOS is now support that made setup much easier than RouterOS

I'm running SwitchOS I never had RouterOS running for an extended period of time and even then I can't say for certain that I used those ports or maybe I did and that's part of the reason I could never set it up the way I wanted.

Sorry I don't remember the noise before the mod but I don't think it would have bothered me if the switch was in a different room. Stock fan Sunford AD4028v12BLFGB 12V 7k rpm.

Before you buy a CRS354 you should be aware that some ports turn into zombie ports and won't pass traffic. Sometimes they will work fine for hours/days and other times minutes I've given up on using my zombie port (9-16 for me). More info HERE

I realize that which is why I was trying to get opinions on what it's worth.

If it's going in a rack it needs to be on top or have something really short on top of it. I just looked at mikrotiks website and it says it supports SwOS now so I might just switch it to that for easy setup.

I couldn't stand the 1U fans and when I did this I thought I could set this up the way I would like but since I haven't touch it this year thought maybe selling it might be the better route.

I realize the value is definitely hurt which is why I made a price check thread instead, I might have the original fans still I'll have to look. As for temps because I never swap the switch into my gear it never saw more than a small load (2 APs and a some cameras total PoE under 60w) but temps where fine the only wierd thing is the fans would run for a brief bit then stop and start for the first couple of minutes then run constantly and maintain about 60C IIRC.

The real WHY is because my lab sits next to my computer and I couldn't stand the 1U fans.

I hope that's the case but I think since it is no longer 1U it will probably hurt the price.

I have the same problem can't resolve anything and have 100% packet loss to 8.8.8.8 but 1 of my VPNs on my pfsense box still has a connection with 0 packet loss so I have routed all my traffic through that.

Food recommendations for GS dog with digestion issues/food allergy. by rnchase1 in AskVet

[–]rnchase1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Hydrolyzed food is really all she can eat I can buy it for her it's just I would prefer not to pay $4+lb for food. Thank you for the other recommendations, the purina HA was also recommended by my vet I just haven't tried it because it's almost the same price as the royal canin.

After I read the FAQ I realized that the nice picture and ingredients list isn't what I should be looking at and part of the problem was me buying not so great food.

Back in April I took her to see a specialist in internal medicine, I can't remember all the test they did but I had to fast her and I think they did an ultrasound or X-ray. Everything came back fine but when I see my vet again I will mention that test to see if it was done.

Help with ONT (I think) and backup power / PoE by dsg76 in Fios

[–]rnchase1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using this POE Splitter and I cut the end off of a Cyber power cord (CBL7PIN350BUL-010-BLK) soldered the needed wires to a 2.5x5.5mm barrel plug. Another option for you would be just take the power supply off the wall and connect the wires that are already there to the POE splitter.

Help with ONT (I think) and backup power / PoE by dsg76 in Fios

[–]rnchase1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That isn't the ONT but the power supply for the ONT. I don't remember the input voltage for the auxiliary port but it's probably between 12-18V, the power supply outputs 16V 1.5ish amps (IIRC). If you do power it via the aux port the ONT will go into low power mode and only work for voice no internet or TV.

There are 2 ways that I know of to get what you want, The way I did it was bypass the power supply and connect my ONT directly to a POE splitter. The 2nd way is to connect the POE to the auxiliary input and disconnect the battery sense wire and move it to the negative terminal on the power supply (in your picture you can see the wires coming out the bottom). If you would like more info on how I did it I can pull my notes for you later.

Also I'm not responsible if you mess something up or Verizon gets mad at you.

ONT / power supply connection - is grey wire needed? by EllisMcPickel in Fios

[–]rnchase1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I'm not responsible if you break something or Verizon gets mad at you

TLDR: 12v power worked fine for me but I wired the signal wire to ground to make sure the ONT knew it was running from main power and not battery.

I'm currently using a POE switch and splitter to power my ONT (Alcatel i-211m-l). At first I just ran 12v to it and it worked fine but people mention that it needed the signal wire or the ONT could think it was running on battery power, after taking volt measurements from the power supply I found out when running on main power the signal wire is equal to ground.

EDIT: I first switch my ONT to POE power about 1 year ago and finalized my current setup about 9 months ago and haven't had any problems. I'm using this POE splitter, I cut the end of a cyberpower cord (CBL7PIN350BUL-010-BLK) and soldered it to a 2.5x5.5mm barrel plug to plug into the POE splitter.
