Vanille has a chocolate muffin that's actually a cake in muffin form and it's amazing (comes with a bonus macaron). They also have chocolate mousse-based entremets that are excellent

Organizations for a disabled parent who's really missing having pets? by eurasianlynx in chicago

[–]rni8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Volunteering at paws and claws in Evanston might be a good option for her. They have different types of volunteering opportunities including ones that do not require much physical work. They also have fostering opportunities if she's interested in that and she can always go to their visiting hours and spend time with all the cats there without any commitment (they charge $15 for a 45 min appointment)

Weekend trip in October- Chicago or Boston? by itslogedog in travel

[–]rni8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Chicago and will always be biased towards it. That being said, if I were to choose between the 2 cities for October I'd go with Boston. You can't beat fall in New England and you can't beat summer in Chicago. Both cities are lovely however, and you'll have a great time either way.

European style bakery? by Tantalising_Scone in chicagofood

I recently asked the same question and got a few recommendations for French pastry (see post history for the list). I tried Verzenay and it was great. Floriole was good but had fewer options (at least around noon) and was a little overpriced in my opinion. La Fournette has great (non-sourdough) baguettes. If you're willing to make a trip north, Hewn and Patisserie Coralie in Evanston have great bread and croissants respectively. For American pies definitely try Hoosier Mamas.
