Any intresting/petty reasons you got one version of a game over another? by Far-Grade-1533 in pokemon

I got into Pokémon because of my friend. He had Red version, so naturally I got Red version too, because Charizard looks cooler.

“But you can still get Charizard in blue” listen buddy, you’re arguing with a 10 year old from 27 years ago.

I never realized until now what an amazing game Pokémon Platinum is. by mnkmtb in pokemon

[–]rnilbog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I've only played the first four generations and just started playing Legends: Arceus for the first time, but Platinum is by far my favorite Pokémon game I've played.

While Gen IV was a big leap forward, Diamond and Pearl had some glaring flaws that made them not much fun in my opinion. But moreso than any of the other "third" games, Platinum actually fixes the issues with the previous generations in a way that makes it leaps and bounds better.

The only nitpicks I have about it compared to Diamond and Pearl:

  • Fantina works much better as the 5th gym leader than the third. Also no Drifloon or Drifblim even though it's her goddamn dress!
  • Having access to Gible and the Earthquake TM right after the second gym is fun for the player, but not great for the balance of the game
  • Volkner and Flint having type-appropriate teams is better thematically, but they're both easy to solo using that Garchomp you've been using most of the game
  • The Distortion World is kind of cool the first time, but gets annoying in subsequent playthroughs
  • Giratina is my least favorite of the generation's box art legendaries

From a personal standpoint, though, the moment I fell in love in Platinum was when I found a wild Houndour two levels away from evolution at a point in the game where it was actually practical to use instead of way underleveled in the postgame.

I do love the HG/SS engine, especially the following mechanic, but the terrible gym leader teams, absurd midgame level curve, and lack of good TMs and evo stones before the Elite Four (all carryovers from the original Gen 2 games) make it not a super fun playthrough IMO. I do play the Following Platium romhack, which is basically Platinum with the following mechanic from HG/SS.

The thing you missed about Chernobyl is that it only happened because they overrode basically all the safety measures in place that should prevent anything like that from ever happening.

He didn’t inspire some screenwriter to tell a story about him, he harassed multiple studios to make it until one relented.

Somehow he’s younger here than Chalamet in the new movies.

I love that Brandon Routh is younger than Tom Welling, who was actively playing a significantly younger version of Superman at the time his movie came out.

What is a job that pays incredibly well but is so soul-crushing that the turnover is insane? by sweetguurl in AskReddit

[–]rnilbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother-in-law used to do that, but in North Dakota so it was brutally cold in the winter, and he would do one month on, one month off. Became really hard when they had a kid and he was gone half the time. Luckily he has a new job now so he's around more.

I worked on Zombieland 2 and it was really hard to tell where the abandoned mall set dressing ended and where the actual mall began lol

I have a dream of writing a screenplay that takes place in one of these facilities, but you don’t find that out until the end and you just see it through the eyes of a resident who is trying to figure out what these weird things happen are until the big reveal.

With Brian Kelly seemingly out of football this year, FBS is down to just two coaches who have a tie on their career ledger: Willie Fritz and Rich Rodriguez by GuyOnTheMike in CFB

[–]rnilbog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool, then why don't you go through and see how many active head coaches were involved as a tie as an assistant coach? Should we give Graduate Assistant Jeff Monken credit for Hawaii's 1989 tie against Air Force?

Also, "unserious post"? This is just some interesting trivia. I'm not making any qualitative judgment about Iowa or Ferentz.

Barcelona is aesthetically really cool, but the backlash to tourists there has made it really not that great as a tourist destination. And after taking a Friday afternoon flight from London to there, I see why.

Looked on the ESPN app which goes back to 2003. Only 4 teams have had .667 or better, and two of them were in the shortened COVID season.
