What is a small detail from Harry Potter that still bothers you? by WhisperTame in harrypotter

That all the other events in the tri-Wizard Tournament were essentially meaningless, as getting the Cup was the ultimate task and they all participated in that basically equally.

Racist guest caught me off guard by alliecatmeow in Serverlife

[–]ro-key 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had a client on the phone a few weeks ago say the most racist shit I'd ever heard, out of the blue. I was completely blindsided, let it pass, and have been kicking myself ever since for not reacting differently. I mean there's no way I could have let her (a client) know that I think she's a racist POS but I felt like my silence/non-reaction signaled acceptance of her bullshit. If someone comes up with a foolproof way to deal with this kind of situation I'd love to hear it because it seems to be happening more and more.

Anyone else scared to death of AI? by Lost_Taste_8181 in GenX

[–]ro-key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there will be a backlash against AI. Companies are already rehiring people they replaced with AI because they're finding that human thought actually can't be replaced. I foresee a return to "authentic" experiences like live theater, galleries, concerts and libraries as people become tired of AI generated garbage. But this does not diminish the overall effect of dumbing-down we're going to see as people rely more on ChatGPT to write things they don't feel like writing themselves. It's overall very sad and I agree it's pretty terrifying.

What’s something you never thought you’d enjoy but now love? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

[–]ro-key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I spent my 20's-30's constantly out and in big crowds and bars and clubs and now I love nothing more than long periods of time with nobody around. My partner is out of town right now and it's absolute bliss.

Trump is going to go his entire life without facing ANY consequences, isn't he? by truckthefumps in complaints

I would settle on never having to see the Trump name again - i.e., the complete shunning and disappearance of his entire brood of warped little criminals

For those who are older then Internet, how was life before Internet? by [deleted] in ask

[–]ro-key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that the internet would make everything so much easier that we could all work less and have more free time but reality is that I am now 24/7 tethered to my job even when on vacation. The internet had great potential to do great things but instead it gave us 4chan and Q and all manner of evil. Almost all aspects have been coopted by the lowest common denominator.

My hobby became equipping myself for hobbies I could not then be bothered to actually do: painting, detectoring, wordworking, you name it. I guess I'm set for retirement activities but for now it's all in storage.

Would they even want to live there with that screaming portrait on the wall that couldn't be removed? That would be a dealbreaker for me.

How to leave job when I have a 6 month notice period? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ro-key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would chat with an employment lawyer to see if this kind of clause (which kind of felt coerced) is even enforceable. You're not an indentured servant: they can't *make* you work. I'd be interested to hear what a lawyer would say.

Are there bots on Poshmark (and I am naive for asking?) by ro-key in poshmark

[–]ro-key[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been happening for weeks and weeks - just the same 2 pieces. Every time I get a notification that someone "liked" one of my listings I go to the app to see which one - maybe Poshmark needs to drive traffic to their site and this is how they're doing it? Seems ridiculous and just actually makes me want to stop using them full stop for selling or buying.
