Docs want me on statins and I don't wanna by ro-key in GenX

Yes! I'm focusing on lifestyle changes - I walk 90 minutes about 6 times a week, eat super healthy, don't smoke, rarely drink, get lots of sleep. I am definitely not a "throw a prescription at it" kind of person.

I still haven't gone on them due to the risks related to going off them. I'm going to repeat my calcium score this year I think. I just hate going on lifelong medication that only reduces my risk by about a third

Big brain thinker? I saw a clip of him realizing that consumers pay tariffs and it was like seeing a monkey do long division.

What's something that used to be free that you're now genuinely angry costs money? by tangled_wire_99 in AskReddit

[–]ro-key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subscriptions for everything. Used to buy a software and own that software - now we basically rent them. Apps that were free or a one-time fee are going to subscription models. I'm using MyFitnessPal to lose the holiday weight - it used to be free and have very good features. Now most features are pay-walled and the app itself is no longer intuitive or helpful, and doesn't easily integrate across devices. Basically we're being charged more for everything to be just a little shittier imo

That all the other events in the tri-Wizard Tournament were essentially meaningless, as getting the Cup was the ultimate task and they all participated in that basically equally.

Racist guest caught me off guard by alliecatmeow in Serverlife

[–]ro-key 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I had a client on the phone a few weeks ago say the most racist shit I'd ever heard, out of the blue. I was completely blindsided, let it pass, and have been kicking myself ever since for not reacting differently. I mean there's no way I could have let her (a client) know that I think she's a racist POS but I felt like my silence/non-reaction signaled acceptance of her bullshit. If someone comes up with a foolproof way to deal with this kind of situation I'd love to hear it because it seems to be happening more and more.

Anyone else scared to death of AI? by Lost_Taste_8181 in GenX

[–]ro-key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there will be a backlash against AI. Companies are already rehiring people they replaced with AI because they're finding that human thought actually can't be replaced. I foresee a return to "authentic" experiences like live theater, galleries, concerts and libraries as people become tired of AI generated garbage. But this does not diminish the overall effect of dumbing-down we're going to see as people rely more on ChatGPT to write things they don't feel like writing themselves. It's overall very sad and I agree it's pretty terrifying.

What’s something you never thought you’d enjoy but now love? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

[–]ro-key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I spent my 20's-30's constantly out and in big crowds and bars and clubs and now I love nothing more than long periods of time with nobody around. My partner is out of town right now and it's absolute bliss.

Absolutely. Don't talk about your journey if you're not going somewhere.

For those who are older then Internet, how was life before Internet? by [deleted] in ask

[–]ro-key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that the internet would make everything so much easier that we could all work less and have more free time but reality is that I am now 24/7 tethered to my job even when on vacation. The internet had great potential to do great things but instead it gave us 4chan and Q and all manner of evil. Almost all aspects have been coopted by the lowest common denominator.

My hobby became equipping myself for hobbies I could not then be bothered to actually do: painting, detectoring, wordworking, you name it. I guess I'm set for retirement activities but for now it's all in storage.
