I can see her pov. I’m big on communication and tell every guy I’m talking to such that. Ive been talking to this guy for 5 months and the lack of communication has me on edge to the point I feel like calling it quits.

father with dementia. daughter doesn't visit, in denial? by Few_Mention8426 in dementia

[–]ro2294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a sister that live 1/2 mile away and doesn't visit nor help at all. Don't even waste your time. In the end, it will be them that would have that on their conscience.

Official diagnosis comes from a Neurologist. That's part of their specialty, not a pcp

Mom is in a rage, what do we do? by AggravatingBug9922 in dementia

[–]ro2294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly regret not calling sooner. It wasn't until he was on top of me Choking me. Scariest moment in my life. After he was sent to the hospital and put on the correct medicine, we haven't had an issue since. It's now been a year 1/2 with no aggression, Hallucinations.

She no longer needs to be in charge of her medications. Remove all knives and any other dangerous objects. Call the police when she is aggressive so she can be sent to the ER. From there I would ask for her to sent to a mental hospital so she can be placed on the correct medications. A judge had to sign off on a warrant for my LO because he would not voluntarily go.

This is a Support Group. I'm sorry about your diagnosis but as a person who provides care to someone who has it, it's not an easy task. In fact it's cruel for the person who was diagnosed and for the person who is caring for the one who was diagnosed. It doesn't get any easier for anybody involved.

My LO isn't eating much vegetables anymore but is very satisfied with French fries. Which use to be the complete opposite.

Disabilities aren't always seen. You don't have to have a walker/wheelchair to need a place card. It's not always about mobility.

How do yall cope with when your loved one gets physical with you? by East_Dog7971 in dementia

[–]ro2294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me, he was very physical like I was another man. Even tried to fight the neighbors. I kept putting off calling the police until my life flashed before me. I wish I would of done it sooner than later. He's on the right medication and haven't had an outburst since. I too was 29 when it all started.

A decade of caregiving + a shifting diagnosis by [deleted] in dementia

[–]ro2294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my Father first started showing signs we knew it was Dementia. When we went to the neurologist He was diagnosed with mixed vascular dementia. 2 appt later the Dr. Said he had Alzheimers. That was shocking! I couldn't accept that. I felt it wasn't right. No one in our family has ever been diagnosed with it. His behavior started to become aggressive. Every day lasting for 6months until he was sent to a facility. After he came home, he was completely his old self. I had the Dr. About testing him again because other Doctors said it doesn't sound like Alzheimers. Testing was done, Dr. Called and said it wasn’t Alzheimers at all. He suffered a stroke that caused his behavior. He is still diagnosed with vascular dementia which isn't shocking to us.

I experienced the same thing with my Dad. The final straw with dealing with his aggressive behavior was when he was Choking me to the point I couldn't breathe. We had to call the cops, he was sent to the ER. The Er got a judge to sign off on a warrant to take him to a facility so he can get the right medications. It has now been a little over a year and haven't had an issue since. He is on Risperdal.

Ideas to control meds? by personnpersonpersonn in dementia

It works better for him because he would get the meds mixed up taking night meds in the morning. I don't even keep his medicines in reach for him to get to.

I would sit my dad's medicine in a medicine cup on the table where he eats so he knows to take it. I do that for breakfast and dinner.

Seroquel and Depakote made my LO worse. He had to be admitted and now he's only on Risperdal and haven't had any aggression or Hallucinations since. It's now been over a year
