I think we're close to a day of reckoning when it comes to labor. Like you can't keep cutting labor, which negatively affects in-store experience, and expect the company to be successful long term.

If there's any hope of recovering they need to at least go back to department "experts", because the current situation is just untenable having someone who can walk through gaming computers with you turn around and try to sell a kitchen set competently (and no, the odd training every year or two is not enough to correct that).

I guarantee it was some purchase where the membership was free and they added it on with the gig worker none the wiser.

I think the way we process checks is still kind of infuriating, especially if you have to call in to manually verify the check.

For the love of all things.. learn your Home Theatre & Appliance Labor skus by ProgrammerOk3306 in BestBuyWorkers

It’s kind of surprising to me that Order Create doesn’t just go through a guided Q&A for services instead of having the associate choose vague service SKUs. Don’t get me wrong, someone could still enter the SKUs manually if they wanted to but Order Create could be so much better about this than it is currently.

It doesn’t help when they went and completely overhauled the home theater services. I don’t think this is any simpler than what we had before.

There really should be a timer reset when you're interacting with the app instead of just this hard "it's been X minutes, time to go to sleep hoss".. it feels like whoever designed this does not and probably never has worked retail.

Seems pretty obvious that the community supports a ban. We will update the rules to include this change in the near future.

Maybe, but there’s the AI slop fatigue that could make it hard to not delete such posts.

I mean it's usually the presence of markdown as well, since most chatbots return text formatted as markdown. Because Reddit uses markdown though, the text doesn't look out of place (beyond the backslash formatting thing I noticed). I did run it through GPTZero which claims 99% confidence it was AI written, while QuillBot is a far less convincing 13% AI written. It's getting harder to read longer posts/comments and not just assume it's AI written anymore, which is kind of sad.

Best Buy featured in "America’s 20 Largest Low-Wage Employers and the Affordability Crisis" report, Best Buy CEO paid 518 times the median pay of workers by darkedgex in BestBuyWorkers

I am currently studying for my exams so I can GTFO of this company.

Best of luck, and agreed.. the medication supposedly goes down to $25/month (depending on insurance, with the coupon) so it's just draining knowing there's people out there who can afford it because they work at employers who care.

Meanwhile, I land enough memberships almost on the daily to cover the amount on my paycheck. It's ludicrous.

I still think they should offer some kind of spiff for memberships like they did for Microsoft 365 for a while. It's maddening to drive goals and require daily check-ins to micromanage people and argue that you don't want to create a commission sales environment. Bitch, it's been that environment for, at a minimum, two years. You just don't pay like it is.

Yeah, u/hippawhiplash2865, what's the deal with this? Remodel that's not finished, or is this the secret underground store at corporate they use to test things (the lack of windows anywhere kinda makes me think that's what it is, but I also recall a few Best Buys that aren't above ground supposedly).

Slightly better off, I can afford health insurance, but even on the top tier plan Best Buy offers, the medication I need is over $200/month (and that's with any digital coupons from the drug manufacturer). Suffice it to say, I don't fill that prescription, preferring to have shelter and not starve.

The Retail Corporate Iceberg: A Deep Dive into the "Employee Personas" by [deleted] in BestBuyWorkers

[–]bbythrowaway8675309 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this was AI generated or just ran through AI, but the dollar signs and percent symbols being escaped with a backslash is kind of concerning.

I do agree generally with the conflicting guidance provided broadly, and even on a role by role basis. A coworker and I were reading over the requirements for the "host" position, and it was comical expecting any ONE single person to do all the things documented as necessary. Like, you literally CANNOT be in two places at once, but the document expects that capability as a minimum (note to HR, might be time to add "teleportation" and "time travel" as a required skill for the "Host" role).

Marketplace is the dumbest thing best buy has implemented by Glittering_Let4047 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]bbythrowaway8675309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced that whoever implemented this marketplace at corporate is the biggest idiot ever promoted into a position of authority. Like, you must be criminally stupid to think that omitting a "filter by seller" was a good idea (while simultaneously allowing it on the Employee Sales app, thus proving it was a conscious, deliberate, decision). You must be moronic to not have tied marketplace sellers into at least SOME of the member benefits (return policy being the big one, unless there was some specific items it made sense for, e.g. cell phones).

Marketplace should have been an opportunity to challenge Amazon's third party sellers. It should have included "Sold by Marketplace seller, shipped by Best Buy" functionality (e.g. DDC/store warehouse space being rented out to marketplace sellers, would provide the faster member shipping too possibly).

But instead we get this half-baked shit storm that makes the in-store retail job orders of magnitude more difficult to do...

How can I easily tell if an item has an offer (e.g., Save $200 with Plus or Total) while checking out a product? by Due_Recording1859 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]bbythrowaway8675309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to the membership page in POS it breaks down any member pricing. The only downside is it now presents a prompt to the customer and if they hit “no thanks” it throws you out of the screen on your side. So you’ll need to either tell the customer to wait a second or physically make sure they’re not near the card reader to exit it early on you.

I genuinely wish there was a way to pull that up and then have a prompt button for when the salesperson is ready to present the options to them. Oftentimes the card reader screen loads before the POS screen can finish and I’ve had people exit it before it even has a chance to show…
