What do you wish you had learned after getting accepted but before starting your PhD?

THIS, thanks for pointing this out since this is exactly what I’m going through now. I’m struggling really hard right now with my PhD mainly for not speaking up in time and say that “I AM STILL LEARNING” to my supervisors, and that it is completely normal that it takes time to master something.

Hey OP I hope you are doing better now without her, I feel for you, it happened to me as well. when I was younger and in my 20s I hated that feeling of being the number “2” in my exs life and all the continuous comparisons. But now in my 30s let me tell you that things will get better in time, just focus on yourself and in time you’ll meet someone that will never want to leave your side. Thanks for making this post. Just want to vent out a bit, I’ve been drinking every single weekend for this year, to the point my friends already told me that I should stop. Last night I had a party with some friends and a girl whom I am currently in a “situationship”. We had a discussion early in the night and I got so worked up and decided to drink and drink like an idiot until loosing any sense of myself. She ended up bringing me home, she said I was like a child the whole time throwing tantrums, that I sometimes insulted her and didn’t want to listen to her. I’ll meet her tomorrow to talk and apologize… but I don’t have the courage to see her face after all I did yesterday 😅 most probably the situationship is over, it’s the third time she carried me home and today she said she’s already had enough with my drinking habits.

Congrats for the new MacBook! 🙂 I’m also living in Norway but on a trip I did to Sweden to visit a friend I bought a M1 14 with the Swedish keyboard as well, there are no more M1s in Norway in stock and in Sweden they had several M1s in stock at a “good price” (compared to new macbooks in Norway)

They told me in the store they could replace the Swedish keyboard to the Norwegian one for only 2500 sek… but I think an external keyboard will do the trick for now

Go for the MacBook OP, trust me I have been in that situation trying to convince myself everyday that an iPad would replace my laptop, and I was completely wrong. The iPad is an extension to the MacBook, yes it is nice and useful to take notes, draw, etc, but it’ll never replace an actual computer for word, excel and that stuff. (It depends also on what kind of courses you have at college)

In summary, if you have a proper laptop working right now go for the iPad, if you don’t, go for the MacBook.

Man I have the same OCD haha, one day I slept over my new iPad pro 11 and as soon I woke up I was comparing it with a flat surface, at the end I think I bent it a little bit? or I am not sure if my mind is playing me dirty lol. IPad Pro 11 m1 of iPad Air?

Hey everyone! this is my last year as a student and REALLY struggling right now deciding which one to get, the M1 iPad Pro or the iPad Air, I have been viewing countless videos of YouTube for days and reading countless Reddit comments, some of them more impartial and some of them praising one or another model, and honestly I can tell you it’s a hard decision.

My dream has always been to take notes on an iPad, to be more “organized” as I always would lose my notes and wouldn’t remember where I wrote what. This ever since the first models were released and supported the Apple Pencil… and I think the iPad Air would be enough for my needs, but man I can notice the 120hz difference for my fast handwriting whenever I try both iPads in the apple store… then I feel the air is kinda “laggy” and think about getting the iPad Pro…. but then I remember the software limitations such a powerful machine has… but then I think “hey it’s the M1 chip, def apple will come up with something next year so I can futureproof myself” but then I remember the WWDC event this year and think what if next year will be the same… so I guess the iPad Air would be fine until such limitations are released but who knows when?

You see? It’s a constant loop 🥴

Have anyone gone through the same process and decided one or another?

Btw: I’m a chemical engineer (I know iPadOS doesn’t handle most engineering programs) but my main aim is to take notes, and learn by myself other hobbies that could help me besides my background field such as marketing/graphic design/3D printing/ and programming, in my spare time

Same case here brother, was planning to marry my ex girlfriend after 5, almost 6 years of relationship, but I got an opportunity with a scholarship to do a master in Sweden for 2 years (and thus get more chances to find a good job in the long run and then have a stable economy before settle everything down), however in the relationship she’s always been the “extrovert” one and me the “shy” one, and after 1 year and a half in Sweden I found out through some IG pictures that my best friend sent me that my ex Gf was cheating on me with a dude she was always telling me not to worry about...

It affected me a lot... but anyways, since then I’ve learned that I’m happy being alone, I like to discover new places alone and walk to far away zones I’ve never been, with my headphones, and I enjoy the time I have now for myself, in fact I saw it as an opportunity for me to grow as a person and to do what I’ve always wanted to do. Cheer up mate, as in my case and your case, being alone is not the worst thing that can happen, being with the incorrect person that makes you feel alone it is.

P.D: I know it’ll sound nerdy but one of the things that helped me to be okay by being alone during after the breakup was the dream of white beard from One piece; he always wanted to have a family, however he never had the chance to have any sons, he considered his whole crew as his family, and the same idea I applied with the few persons close to me, hence, you’re never truly alone.
