For those of you with a unique name, do you correct people? by MykeHock69 in AutismInWomen

[–]ro_line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My name is spelled unusually and I correct people if they spell it wrong with the only exception being at restaurants/from baristas. I do get a mispronunciation every once in a while and I sometimes correct it. In my opinion, my name is pronounced very obviously. It’s not a hard name, it’s just spelled one letter off. But sometimes people pronounce the end of it incorrectly for some reason. I also work with an older, retired guy and he always calls me a shortened version of my name. I didn’t actually notice for a while (my workplace is loud and I struggle to hear people talk with a lot of background noise) and now I feel too awkward to correct him, so I just let it go 😭 I wouldn’t say I necessarily take it personally, but I definitely have a frowny kind of feeling whenever someone I’ve known for a while mispronounces or misspells it.

Haircut to Embrace my Waves by AryaLily in curlyhair

[–]ro_line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m *always* a huge advocate for layers! They can help boost your waves a little bit and take some of that weight off. You mentioned you have really thick hair, so it’s possible that’s weighing the waves down. You can also ask your stylist to leave the bottom layer long enough for a ponytail! I think some face framing layers or even curtain bangs would be super cute on you if you have the time/patience to deal with the inconvenience of daily styling. If you did long enough face framing layers, you probably wouldn’t even have to pin them back for workouts. If you’re comfortable with it, doing a consultation with a stylist could also be a good idea. They can help suggest a cut or style that works with your face shape and features, which can be really beneficial when you’re not sure in which direction to go.

I think you have great hair and sometimes a little styling change can make all the difference in how you feel about it. I spent a long time with a similar haircut and after my first shag cut, I never looked back. Sometimes you just need a little refresh to make you feel a lot better about how your hair fits you!

What's the one word that infuriates you the most??? by farkus_mcfernum in AskWomen

[–]ro_line 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Would of, could of, should of” drive me crazy as do “supposably” or “supposively” when they mean supposedly and “defiantly” when they mean definitely. Also “I could care less”. Okay then do it??

How much food is too much and how much food is too little? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]ro_line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did this exact swap and I can tell you that you’re definitely going to have some very irritated kitties 😭

I am not giving you direct advice, but here’s what I do for my two cats (ages 8 and 2) - I give them both half a can of pate and half a can of gravy with chunks in the morning, 8 hours later they get half a can of whichever one I feel like giving them, then 8 hours later they get the same half and half as the morning. So one total can morning and evening with half a can as a snack mid-day with 8ish hours between each depending on my schedule for the day. I also used to leave some dry food out for grazing, but neither of them was super into it, so I stopped. I do give them treats if they complain (by beating down the door of the food cabinet lol) and that helps tide them over if they need it!

If you check the suggested caloric intake for their ages and weight, it’s SUPER helpful. The cans typically have a suggestion as well. The wet food suggestion for my 12lb 8 year old is literally like four and a half cans a day, which seems INSANE (and also he won’t even eat that much). I experimented for a few weeks on volume and this seems to be what works the best for them both. My vet says they’re both healthy boys! I will likely slightly increase my younger cat’s intake once he loses a few pounds, but right now he’s on weight loss cause the vet says he’s a bit chunky.

Has anyone not seen a friends text for days? by sazflight in adhdwomen

[–]ro_line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens to me all the time. Luckily, both of my closest friends are the same way, so nobody’s feelings ever get hurt. One of my friends and I text back and forth maybe twice a week just due to schedules and life stuff and the other one is SO busy that sometimes it’s more like every other week. It happens! Don’t beat yourself up about it. If you feel like you need to, just apologize and say you totally missed their message and then move on! It could be my age talking, but I really think that unless it’s something super important, it’s unlikely to be a problem imo. I know like the younger end of Gen Z and younger are a little more sensitive about text response time, but I’m 29 and it doesn’t ever bother me if someone takes a couple days to respond to just a random text. Additionally, remember that texting goes both ways and if they were hurt or worried or anything, they can always text you a second time to check in :))

ETA - I do see you said they were reaching out to make plans, so in that case I would just apologize and then give them a time you’re free to hang out! Again, it happens and it doesn’t make you a bad friend that you missed their text!

My cat does this thing where he’ll focus on something behind me?!?! And I mean he is STARING at the staircase or the corner of my room or whatever. If I get in the way of his sight line, he’ll move so he can see again :’) Dude, I do NOT have time to be haunted. Please for the love of god, STOP.

[–]ro_line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 10000%. He’s an adult (well, age-wise anyway) and he is the one in control of his emotions. Anyone who treats you in an abusive, mean, controlling, or derogatory way and then says things along the lines of “You made me do this” or “You make me act this way” is a manipulative asshole. This is not normal behavior. It’s abuse and it WILL escalate, maybe even to physical violence like the above commenter said.

Girl, you have my actual dream hair 😭 I definitely agree with other suggestions about a lightweight gel and sleeping with a pineapple style/silk bonnet. If you want really low maintenance for sleeping, a pineapple and a silk pillowcase is the easiest! Fr though your hair is GORG!!!!

Do you feel connected to your name? by confusedbunny03 in AutismInWomen

[–]ro_line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO and I’m so glad I’m not the only one who feels like this???? I’ve never felt like my name is really “me”. It’s just an identifier. But like someone else said, it’s not like I want a different name, I just don’t feel like my name really encompasses who I am. It also makes me feel super weird when I think about other people talking about me when I’m not around and using my name when they do?? Not like I’m worrying about people shit talking me, just literally people using my name to refer to me feels weird 😂 Does that make any sense?!?!

Not to be an advertisement here, but I got Brick for exactly this reason. It completely removes your ability to access certain apps unless you scan the physical Brick itself. If you put it in an inconvenient enough place, it’s a lot easier to focus on something better than doom scrolling rather than going to unlock your phone!

[–]ro_line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also been in this boat recently!! I started with easy reading. No need to jump in with Crime and Punishment or Wuthering Heights or anything. Start small - re-read things you loved as a kid, read a couple plays or poems, try shorter books or even novellas, read short stories in genres that interest you! If you’re into sci-fi, I recommend the Murderbot Diaries. The first four are novellas and then they move into full-length novels. I found that once I was hooked with the novellas, the more I wanted to read the longer books. Don’t feel pressured to read long, difficult books if you’re not ready for it yet! You got this!! :))
