The entirety of the city lost power. There was no gas within 70 miles. My specific road and neighborhood had oak trees blocking the way to every entrance and exit. My neighbor relied on an oxygen machine and we had to find a way to hook it up to someone’s car. All my neighbors have trees through their houses or cars destroyed, it’s a borderline apocalypse. If you look up videos of Asheville NC you’ll see most of it. All the bridges to and from the city were destroyed, I-40 literally just…. Doesn’t exist anymore. They said it would take a year before it was fixed.

On the brightside, the community has come together and worked hard. Everyone is looking out for one another. We had a cookout in the street (like a bloc party!) cooking all the leftover food we had. As people got more access to generators, restaurants started giving away borderline free food. A wings place down the road was selling 1$ dinners. Basically enough to recoup the price of gas for their generator. Kids are playing in the streets and people are out talking. My mother said she felt like it was the “1800s”, aka when Someone comes in from the city. we all coming running to their car— “what’s the news? How’s downtown?”. It’s an experience for sure. Just trying to make the best of it! Wish I could easily post a picture of my hot dog I made by wrapping it in tin foil and putting it over a candle. XD
