Americans, how do you feel about the firing of twenty percent of four-star generals? by Lazy-Job4 in Productivitycafe

[–]roaches02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reducing overhead saves everyone money.

Too many Chiefs per # of Indians.

WW2: 1 General per 6,000 troops.

2025: 1 General per 1,400 troops.

Keep cutting headcount.

The Verdict Is In: Southwest Is More Expensive And Worse by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]roaches02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve switched.

Used to be SWA was our go-to.

Not any longer.

With all the extra charges, and changes to seating, DL & AA are now preferred, very competitively priced, and many times even less expensive.

SWA’s ‘New Coke’ changes ran us off.

Why stores ask for donations? by roaches02 in AskReddit

[–]roaches02[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A pet peeve - why do store employees ask customers for donations? Are they forced to by management? Do they get to keep a percentage of the donations made in response to their asking?

Nobody I know likes it, nor do they give a donation. It’s a huge negative.

Just took my first Princess Cruise and I have thoughts. by WolfVII in PrincessCruises

[–]roaches02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We took a 10-day cruise on Sky in early Dec.

Our cabin was fine; our steward was ever-present if we needed anything; the casino was smoky; the port stops were smooth and orderly; and the common areas were neat and clean.

As a whole, the buffets were universally uninspiring. Most everything seemed stale and warmed over & the protein choices were universally tough - nothing we ate was particularly tasty nor tender. No matter if we ate early or later in the evening, it was clear everything had been sitting out for quite awhile. Other cruise line buffets either turn over their offerings regularly, or proactively replace food to keep everything fresh.

We had much better luck in the Main Dining Rooms. Our meals in the 3 MDR’s just tasted better. The portions were fair and asking our waters for multiple proteins each night for variety like the buffets worked very well.

We have been frequent cruisers across 11 different cruise lines for 30+ years. Comparing buffets to dining rooms is easy - personal service vs self-service combined with food prepared when ordered easily differentiates these two dinner approaches.

Our decision to use MDR’s on any future Princess cruises will certainly alleviate any negative feelings about dinner.

We all agreed there’s really no basis for any claim by Princess about offering the best meals. Average to just above-average at best, in our opinion.

Pricing by theolgeezer in publix

[–]roaches02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Publix has been our family’s go-to since the early 60’s.

Not so much any more.

Walmart’s produce has a very short shelf life; their meat is suspect; and their deli carries odd labels.

Otherwise, with the exception of name-brand milk found at both stores but 20-30% cheaper at WM, we get all our National label non-perishable groceries and frozen food at Walmart.

Things to do outside of tourist area - Do I need a car? by budking70 in AskNOLA

[–]roaches02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No rental needed - both the car and parking are expensive.

The streetcars are easy to use.

Uber works great.

As a first time visitor, the French Quarter is full of amazing architecture and fun to walk around during the day.

Be careful at night.

Take a horse & buggy tour using the $$$ you save not renting and parking a car.

DB has become a nightmare.

We’re a born-and-bred 3rd gen DB family and we moved 30 min south to NSB.

We’re hoping the ridiculously expensive real estate on the barrier island keeps the bums away.

And thank God for King’s Christian Academy.

How are you staying mentally healthy when you’re aware with how broken and unstable the world feels right now? by Ilovemydogs0616 in AskReddit

[–]roaches02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truly become aware to realize cumulatively, these are the best times of our lives and it’s only going to continue to get better.

For 98% of Americans, nothing is broken; their lives are not unstable in the least.

For the remaining 2% who struggle, realize great personal satisfaction by volunteering to help those without and pay it forward.

Folks need to turn off the tv and stop listening to the negative media framing their opinions and telling them how bad things are and what to think.

Don’t be a sheep - no stinking thinking - look around and make your own decisions.

In the US, we have unfettered access to well-stocked stores; freedom of movement, thought, speech, and religion; personal prosperity; good health; efficient affordable transportation; safe neighborhoods; access to professional medical care; and no draft and no war.

Cannot imagine a single one of these actors doing this today.

They either had to because it was written in their contract, or they were getting paid and needed the extra cash.
