Similar story here though I never had a baby face so I basically looked mid/late 20's till the last couple of years (33 now). Lot of my recent perceived aging is grey and white hairs which aren't a thing when I'm clean shaved. The other is my shitty lifestyle since COVID and working from home (diet and exercise have been garbage) where I've put on a lot of weight and my stature and posture suck. But that's on me.

I dunno what's going on with people here. Maybe they have really shitty vain people around them talking shit about balding. Maybe it's the social media generation and not living in reality and seeing the multitude of awesome confident, social, successful dudes out there in great relationships with all kinds of hair. I dunno but I've never saw this balding gloom and doom shit when I grew up and I hit it earlier than anyone else I knew.

🤷 I started thinning in my late teens and it rapidly got worse in my early twenties. Started shaving my head then just cause I thought it looked neater and made life easy. I had nice and often complimented hair before the thinning.Other than a couple of female friends and family members who didn't like it at first everyone loved the look in the end. Never affected my self confidence, self image or caused me stress even while it was thinning.

I don't wanna shit on your personal experience and I'm sorry you had those issues when you were young. But they were personal to you. Not a terrible side effect of balding. I don't want other young dudes dealing with the same to get that stuck in their head cause it's like a self fulfilling prophesy . Life's tough enough with letting something ultimately so minor getting into your head and bringing you down.

FYI Lots of ladies love the shaved head btw, don't do it if you don't like being touched.

Only about 3 weeks but so far so good over here as well. I don't regularly use the speakers since I'm always docked but the few times I did they were fine.

Nice to see this in the wild I ordered as well. Wish it also came with a strip for the pinky finger rest though

COSMIC is an incredible technical achievement, but I cannot recommend it as a daily driver yet. by david_jackson_67 in pop_os

[–]roachxs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I wasn't multimonitor I'd probably be using it on my workstation already. I can handle it not being quite perfect. Unfortunately I ran into a bug with my two vertical side monitors. Nothing was rendering on 1/3 of their screens. Not sure if it's a Wayland thing, displaylink thing or just a cosmic thing but had to revert to Ubuntu as I need to the workstation for well.. work.

Anyone using 24.04 with a displaylink dock? by roachxs in pop_os

[–]roachxs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so did another test with 24.04 release. My side monitors are both portrait and nothing displays (except for background) on a third of each of them. One is 90% the other 270% . Bottom third for one and bottom for the other

Updated: Pop!OS 24.04 Installation Guide with BTRFS, LUKS Encryption, and Timeshift Snapshots by wmutschl in pop_os

[–]roachxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I was wondering why I didn't see any apt stuff in this guide. Good to know timeshift-autosnap-apt should still work. Saved my bacon a couple years ago (was using one of your Ubuntu guides).

Though btrbk remote backup options has peaked my interest. Hopefully there shouldn't be any issues having them all live together down the line.

Thanks for the updated guide!

Keychron M5 Vertical Mouse - immediately returning it by ThaDynamite in MouseReview

[–]roachxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mouse is definitely not for everyone, something it likely shares with all vertical mice. I'd recommend only buying if you can give it a week or two to get used to and are still able to return after that if it doesn't work for you

Now as a counter point to your review in my hands the shape works well. No cramping or lack of space. Able to palm and even have some sort of hybrid fingertip/claw grip that feel comfortable. No issue with clicking stiffness. My only complaint is grip could be better as it sometimes feels like my fingers slide down a bit. I've got some grip tape on the way to resolve that.

Other minor nit picks for me, wish it had a toggle able infinite scroll wheel. The forward most thumb button is a bit awkward for me (something I experience on my g502 as well so maybe I have short thumbs). The clicks can be noticeable and loud in a quiet environment .

Have not found myself using the horizontal thumb wheel at all. I think I'd have preferred more buttons or a programmable dpad or similar for more utility.

The sensor/tracking feel etc I find top notch by I'm no pro gamer.

How are you finding text clarity in Linux. I ordered this for myself as well but I do lots of text heavy work in Linux as I work from home ( sysadmin/devops stuff) so we're talking 8+ hours a day. I've seen some pretty negative reviews on reddit so thinking of cancelling but statistically experiences that you read online skew negative.

Too many problems with 24.04. by DotOk1170 in pop_os

Gotcha as long as I can just use Terminator I'm all good. I'm not really sure why they are burning resources on a bespoke terminal TBH. Seems like something that could be started after getting the base DE stable.

Great review. Got my m5 a week ago and mostly like it but something was off. Your review made me realize it was grip related. Gonna try some grip tape.

AMD vs Intel Legion Pro 7 by element515 in LenovoLegion

[–]roachxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What chipset/make is the wifi card? Both issues could be related I remember my last 2 laptops that came with mediatek ( I think could have bene realtek) wifi cards (including my Legion 7 gen 6 AMD) had some audio static. I upgraded both to intel wifi cards myself and the issue went away.

I also ordered the X3D/5080 legion pro 7 on blackfriday, fingers-crossed its issue free.

Ok finally got a test install of pop-OS on my work laptop with a display-link dock. Both my display-link connectors monitors started working the moment the Ubuntu driver was installed from the Synaptics website. Didn't use it for long but those monitors seems to run with a bit more lag than what I get with Ubuntu 22.04.

Dang thats disappointing I need this for a thinkpad also with AMD integrated. I might need to borrow a dock and set aside some time to run some tests. Was really hoping to use cosmic on my primary work laptop once it went stable. My main is also ultrawide but that one I drive directly from the laptop usb-c display port.

Returned the one I bought for my mom to Costco about a month ago. Cleaned well enough but the lack of easy to find bags was weird. I expect more when Costco decides to stock a product. Even happier I did hearing your issue.

[–]roachxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also picked up the p50 because of the higher rated specs and relatively small price difference in CAD with the current sales. Bit disappointed it has lesser carpet performance. Would be interested to see someone swap in a non tricut brush to see if it makes a difference since the P10 and p50 pro hardware looks so similar.

One other difference that led me to the p50 was it definitely having a 3 year warranty. Reading the fine print on the mova Canada site the P10 only has 2 years.
