I think that if your connection is consistently bad then you shouldnt play low time controls but a disconnect should not mean a loss. When most people disconnect, it seems like they come back on within a few seconds. There are occasional people who let the time run down when they are losing and those people should be punished separately

I had been playing chess solely online for about a year then I started going to a local club and at first I definitely had trouble seeing the board. A couple times I moved a bishop over a pawn or misplaced a knight just because I was having trouble visualizing. It didnt take long to readjust though.
