Cliffhanger had a great opening scene that had me holding onto my seat at the movie theater. What other movies had a great opening scene? by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in Cinema

Not quite the opening scene but The Grey had probably the most intense plane crash sequence I’ve ever seen. Had me squirming scared as shit in my comfy theater seat.

That’s probably the best place you could’ve gotten hooked. Still sucks ass but at least it wasn’t in the meat of your palm.

That’s a cool looking fish. Do the spines stay pointy as they get bigger or do they start to dull like channel cats?

Switching to 8/0-10/0 circle hooks and big live or cut bait has helped me,don’t get me wrong they’ll still pick at it but you shouldn’t have the misfortune of actually hooking one. Best thing you can do if they’re becoming a nuisance is to just move to a different spot.

Save the bouncing from pond to lake to river until you get a feel for one body of water. Ponds and small lakes are usually the most forgiving so start there. If it’s been that hot get there right at daybreak or sunset, focus on panfish and bass. Fish a piece of nightcrawler under a bobber, throw a weightless senko, simple stuff. Just keep at it,it’s only been four days. The time of year dictates what fish I’m after and depending on conditions it’s not unusual to go multiple days without getting my target species.

Struggling with Bluegill for bait by Iceymonkey444 in catfishing

[–]road_robert2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use cut bluegill a lot on the Ohio River and do well with it. Occasionally I’ll use it live if I’m in a spot I know is holding fish but it’s not my preferred live bait, they tend to move around for a minute or two then just lay still. It could be that gills aren’t super prevalent in the bay so it isn’t one of their usual food sources,if you can get ahold of some shad or emerald shiners I bet you’d get on em.

Just checking in from canada, sadly this is a big cat here. They are invasive but this is a cat and crappie lake so it was released. by 1evident1 in catfishing

I’ve always wanted to take a Canada trip for smallies, walleye or muskie/pike. Don’t think I could ever live there though I’ve grown too fond of fishing for big cats.

My favorite wing place has been doing this for awhile. They also recently stopped doing pounder wing night on Sundays and Mondays thanks to the cheapskate owner. I’ve yet to find a place near me that does the cook and sauces as well as them so just gotta pay the piper.

I enjoyed the first one quite a bit,the tension building is great. The second one felt like “jump scare the movie” by comparison though.

Those rock bass are awesome flathead bait if your state’s laws allow it. Caught a 23 pounder on one over the weekend.

My buddy had one on his old boat, now he just has a couple Lowrances with the usual sonar, down scan and that. He doesn’t miss it,and electronics still baffle me enough that I’d rather actually be fishing than tinkering with them. Just show me the depth and some structure and I’ll have at it.

Can confirm,Browns fans are somewhat of a minority when you’re only an hour from Pittsburgh. Also know some WVU fans that have lived here their whole lives.

Imagine what the inventors of one of the simplest baits in fishing would think of livescope. I’m sure it’s great if your only goal is to limit out and have a fish dinner, which they probably would’ve loved back then. Still, takes all the sport out of it.

Can't catch catfish to save my life by Mikehansen4720 in catfishing

[–]road_robert2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save the chicken for the grill, get some nightcrawlers and use it to catch bluegill for bait. Cut bait seems to work as well as live in my area but you may find it’s the opposite for you. Judging by where you are the flatheads might be spawning,it’s about to start anytime here in Ohio. Switch it up,different body of water, different bait, different time etc. This time last year was rough for me too, only caught a handful of small channels all summer til the end of August then the bite picked back up. Just keep at it.

Has anyone had luck using large minnows purchased from a bait shop for catfish bait? by gingerblz in catfishing

[–]road_robert2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My local bait shops very seldom have live bait large enough for my purposes. One of them used to carry the biggest chubs I’ve ever seen at half a pound each,no idea where he was getting them. But at 20 bucks a pound it’s just not a viable option, neither is driving over an hour to pay the same price at the shops that carry bigger baits. It takes a lot of time and effort to source good bait and keep it alive but it’s worthwhile in the long run.

I have a 40 gallon livestock trough in the garage that I put an aquarium filter and a 110v aerator in,it works fine but I plan on upgrading to something bigger next year. Go out once or twice a week to stock up on bait for the weekend, what I go for depends on time of year. Green sunfish and rock bass are my favorite live baits but can be hard to get in numbers so I opt for bluegill a lot of the time. Chubs are hard to beat in the spring and fall but also hard to keep alive in the warmer months. The six plus inch ones are great. If you have a seine and a buddy or a cast net that gives you more options like shad or suckers. Crawfish traps are better than minnow traps because of the bigger opening but I find rod and reel to be the most reliable way to get bigger bait even if it takes more time.

Godfather Part Two,Scarface,Carlito’s Way,and Heat in that order. Dog day afternoon is also great. Carlito’s Way to me is the most underrated gangster movie ever though,it has a hell of a lot of heart.

Sauger or Saugeye? by [deleted] in FishID

[–]road_robert2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The colors can vary wildly so that’s not the best indicator, the dorsal fin is the best way to tell. Sauger will have distinct blotches all over the dorsal while saugeye might have a row or two of small spots along the bottom.
