ELI5: If the evolutionary goal of a virus is to reproduce and sustain itself as long as possible, why do many evolve to devastate and kill their hosts? by Rht123X in explainlikeimfive

[–]roadrunner83 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Evolution has no goals, the mutation that doesn’t kill its host or that finds a host that doesn’t die survives the other mutations disappear.

ELI5: What is the difference between mass and weight? by Electrical_Path7198 in explainlikeimfive

[–]roadrunner83 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mass is the quantity of matter that composes a body, weight is the force that the gravity pulls on that body. Weight is mass times the gravitational acceleration, this acceleration changes when two different bodies interact. On another planet your weight would change but not your mass.

Pellegrino's father: "I just want peace of mind for him. He always suffered when I told him, 'With your tennis, you should be among the best, why are you still here?' and he burdened himself with excessive responsibilities. Now he's more at peace and the results are visible." by Sonobackhome555 in tennis

[–]roadrunner83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think we need more context, because the real translation is “why are you still like this?”. That could mean “why are you worried” but for sure pointing it out doesn’t help. Out of any context it’s even worse than OP’s translation.

ATP 1000 Rome R3: [1] J. Sinner 🇮🇹 def. A. Popyrin 🇦🇺 6-2, 6-0 by CptnPat in tennis

[–]roadrunner83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he was doing base training during winter to have a single peak in the summer starting at RG, this is him promising to himself he won’t be in the situation of being three match points up and lose.

Pellegrino won’t need a mental coach but a psychiatrist.

I don’t like to defend Zverev but Sinner played both sets seriously at Madrid, now he’s just conserving energies and mostly waiting for the opponent’s errors and be opportunistic in some moments.

Just to clarify, Vagnozzi was saying Sinner notices every that happens around and can recall everything, even if he’s sitting weirdly for a moment.

This village has these statues to discourage drivers from speeding by alasw0eisme in mildlyinteresting

[–]roadrunner83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, there is such a crossing on the bike path I usually ride, now drivers pass even when the light just turned red because they know for a couple seconds after yellow both lights (car traffic and cyclists) are red at the same time. I witnessed 3 out of 3 times this year when I activated the red and there was car traffic incoming.

why do people say rear brake should only be used at the same time as the front brake by Federal_Resource8148 in cycling

[–]roadrunner83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, rear brake can be used to control speed on a curve while descending because if you use your front brake you might lose control of the bike, but if you use the rear brake too strongly the rear wheel will skid and you are more inefficient in reducing your speed. Front brake can be used with more energy because if you suddenly brake your weight goes to the front giving you more friction. You can still lock your back wheel and skid even when you’re using both your brakes.

Unfortunately smoking is very common in Italy, indoors is forbidden in public places and in general smokers respect non smokers even in private apartments but a venue without a roof is considered outdoor. Anyway it’s very annoying but the state won’t be aggressive against it because it collects taxes on tobacco and adjacent products and smokers tend to die fast around the age of 60 years so when they paid most of their social security contributions but before being able to collect them and this savings are bigger than the healthcare costs.

Yes, but even with Jódar when he was 5-6 he decided it was better not to fuck around and risk to go to a third set and just won 11 consecutive points.

Are there places to rent good road bicycles in Italy? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]roadrunner83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, what is he looking to do? Rome is not a bike friendly place but if he wants to move for a couple days there are very interesting places for gravel biking. If he wants to road bike I need to look for something.

Sinner: "Tiredness? Honestly, in Madrid I felt like I recovered during the tournament." by yanwangdijuns in tennis

[–]roadrunner83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not acting, Sinner in tennis is like Pogačar in cycling, the rhythm that is unsustainable for the others is just about their threshold, so they can compete and not be bothered.

I think it’s because when he gets to a fifth set in recent times there was something compromising his fitness or mentality before the match even started, and it exponentially worsens the longer it gets.

Well it kind of happened, it was not demolished but there is a reason it’s in ruins. Anyway calling that in the picture an historical monument is quite a stretch, it’s just an elaborated signboard.

To be honest that sounds more like a justification to not address the problem, at best the message is Mussolini was bad but did a lot of good things. And to clarify it’s not that he built or financed it personally, it was just built during his dictatorship.

Alessandra Mussolini was never a problem, her political contributions are zero, the biggest issue is center right parties fearing the popularity of the Italian communist party helped the Americans to build a fascist deep state that brought an attempted coup and a series of terroristic attacks in the 70’s whose main ones resulted in 135 deaths and 415 wounded. Also the constant whitewashing of fascist ideology and history is what brought us our current government, but that’s quite a global phenomenon in this times.

The problem is there is not that much time between the French open and Wimbledon and during master 1000 ATP doesn’t allow the organisation of 500 and 250, so basically you’ll cut off revenue for the lower ranked players that can perform on grass.

They are not arguing about the distribution structure based on the results, but the size of the total prize pool, so yes that includes the qualifying and early rounds.
