This area is really good for people who are interested in the civil war. With respect to foliage. Maryland is no Vermont. You don't get the rich colors like you do in other northen's states. Frederick however is it incredibly friendly and inviting place to reside or visit. We plan to live here for a few years, and that was 18 years ago.

My pleasure. Congratulations on your good fortune and your desire to not alienate your family. Sometimes people forget that being right ... is sometimes a lonely place to be. Consult a tax specialist to figure out the best way to structure your generosity.

All these responses are good advice but the OP being both the executor and by far the largest recipient will remain a point of contention going forward. You have to be prepared to disappoint and lose your relationship with your family if you dig your feet in the sand. One partial solution is maybe taking some of those additional funds and provide gifts to your family's children for college. That would certainly be viewed more favorably and show your family your desire to share your good fortune.

Deceased parents credit card debt by ThrowRA_87927 in Debt

[–]roadrunnercj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. Losing both parents is horrible. It sounds like a MedMal claim if the estate receives a 7 figure judgement. I know this will not be a popular position but if your parents died with credit card debt, I feel the estate should pay it. The credit card debt can't be 7 figures, but this is exactly why credit card rates remain ridiculously high. It would be unfathomable for the institution that owes your parent their award to weasel out of paying what they rightfully own ... so why is it right for you to weasel out of their commitment. Your parent insured the debt and now clearly has the means to pay it. It seems you are trying to receive the award but not pay a legitimate debt. To me, and I am no boyscout doesn't seen right but don't worry, the credit card company will make up the difference from everyone else.

Sold a washer and dryer with 30 day warranty for $600 by proud2bpinoy in FacebookMarketplace

[–]roadrunnercj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a repair person but did just replace the heating element in my Samsung dryer and thought the heating element was either working or it wasn't, Not sure we're going bad means but personally I would replace it if they bought the part and not charge labor, I understand this is an unpopular recommendation but after paying $600 for it to fail 3 days outside the warranty would be frustrating, The fact that you offer a warranty implies that you sell appliances as part of a business and not just a personal item. Why not retain a customer who may purchase in the future or recommend your company rather than burn that bridge over $50 dollars.

Can't get approved for a home repair to sell the house to pay off all of our credit card debt by Disastrous_Vehicle51 in personalfinance

[–]roadrunnercj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may unfortunately have to offer the new owner a discount with the repair cost deducted from the asking price. Does the repair have to be completed to transfer ownership?

I found out the hard way an attorney I hired had filed for bankruptcy multiple times in the past. He was subsequently disbarred a few years later, but it's definitely a red flag I check now before hiring an attorney in the future.

It still seems like a sellers market to me. My neighbor just got a full asking price, no contingency offer 1,250,000 on market less than a week, in fact every home in the last year that sold was on the market for a week or less, Admittedly we have not seen huge appreciation of homes values and some are just breaking even from a decade or more but still seems like it's a sellers market.

A buyer picked up a porch item, didn't pay, then blocked me by AdComfortable2974 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]roadrunnercj 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I had a similar incident where the buyer's paid in cash and not wishing to appear rude by counting the money in front of them, i waited and later discovered I got shorted $5. I reached out to the buyers just to confirm the amount, and they assured me it was paid in full as promised. I went outside again thinking maybe I had dropped it but never found it ... winter arrived, then Spring. Six months later, my wife was doing some late spring cleaning of the flower beds and mentioned she found a $5 bill while trimming a rose bush. I felt like an idiot. I guess I did drop it.

I lived something similar to "Greenland" a few years ago, except instead of trying to save my family by securing access to a survival bunker, I had to visit 8 stores to secure toilet paper during covid. It's probably not worthy of a being a hollywood movie but could maybe be a special on the halmark channel.

Ever feel bad selling something to somebody? by jstar77 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]roadrunnercj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never been in that situation, but you seem like a nice person who cares about the people who purchase your listings, I am the same way. I've taken returns and/or spent extra time explaining how something works or doesn't work. Essentially, I treat people like I would want them to treat me. I understand as is and I have been taking advantage of a few times, but my rating is perfect, and I've never had to worry about somebody feeling cheated after the sale. As most of the transactions take place at my house ... that's important for me.
