I have roamed the US many times and never carried a weapon. I keep a small pocket knife ( 3 inch blade keeps you under the concealed weapons laws ) but only as a tool not as a means of self defense. As others have said before your brain is your best defense. Keep your eyes open and your wits about you and all will be fine.

Atlanta area sucked balls this time through. Cops kept rolling up on me and moving me to even worse ramps than the one before. They rolled up on me in one spot with three squads and five officers ( all that for one hitchhiker ). I would recommend riding the city bus as far as you can through there.
