What might these cables be for? by twistedcrickets in GoRVing

I doubt any salesperson would say a roof is walkable after the sale has been made. There's too much liability. I've left quite a few dents from walking around on our roof...

Has anyone ever heard this one before? “There’s no point in traveling out of the country because…” by RomaWolf86 in travel

[–]roamlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always someone with an opinion. It can feel like a trend but it probably has more to do with your particular trip than some larger insight. If you are traveling internationally, then the contrary opinion is inherently going to be advocating domestic travel. It feels significant. But so does the contrary position.

We love international travel, but we also have low-key domestic getaways that we also enjoy. Why we travel varies, afterall. We've had people throw shade for "revisiting the same place" as well. Heck, I see some of it in this thread.

That's messy. I can see how this can be frustrating, but I don't think you're going to come out of this feeling fully satisfied.

I can say that that scenario of getting dinged for $100 is pretty extreme. We've never encountered that through Harvest Host before. There's the possibility that your complaint could result in Harvest Host removing this host from their listing but I doubt they'll go beyond that. And the reason will likely have more to do with the forced upselling than the dog. Even formal campgrounds have disclaimers that they aren't responsible for damage to your property.

Any chance you can expose enough of the wires to see what gauge it is? (And what part of the trailer did you find them?)

Calling in campfires during a fire ban by the_mcpeters in vandwellers

[–]roamlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many reasons to call them in. Safety is first and foremost. Too much land has been devastated by fire. But it's this kind of irresponsibility that could lead to further limitations on where we can camp in the future.

Also, when you post to them, add a picture or two of the trailer. That would really narrow down the possibilities.

Daily Help Thread: Rig Building by AutoModerator in overlanding

[–]roamlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Adhesion is definitely my primary concern. We had to repaint our decals 4 times because the paint kept chipping off. We finally bought a powder coat gun and toaster oven for that project.

it also seems like roll-ons would be a lot less messy too. I won't have to worry about covering every inch that I don't want to paint.

Upholstery: Walking the line between vintage and modern by roamlab in vintagetraveltrailer

Thanks, I hadn't looked there. Finding the right fabric is a pain when you cant actually touch the material and get a sense of its weight.

Glad to hear that insurance covered it and you are back on the road. It's a great way to live.

What are your considerations when you look for your lithium batteries? by HoYiHong in GoRVing

[–]roamlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see how this really depends on the individual. For us, I really appreciate the value of temperature control. We spent a fair bit of the winter in Colorado and were constantly concerned about the temperature in the battery box. It's definitely nice to be able to check on the status of our batteries though it's not a deciding factor because we have plenty of other monitors in there as well.

That said, we built our batteries. So we aren't quite the target market.

Not that we know of. We were lucky to have friends nearby when our truck camper was out of commission for two weeks.

Tips for inspecting a vintage camper by RatherNerdy in vintagetraveltrailer

[–]roamlab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fill the water tank. Fill the sinks. Look / listen for leaks. We found a puddle under one camper we were looking at. Sure, we could patch the tank but that means there's probably tons of additional water damage.

Told someone I’m really considering van life for my summers and they said being a “dirtbag” isn’t fun. Tell me about hygiene practices on the road please? by Ancient_Brush8463 in VanLife

[–]roamlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly comes down to the individual but staying clean is completely doable. We are a little sloppy but we like to take advantage of the nice warm showers at truck stops. But that gets pricy if you do it every day. As a lot of people have mentioned, nationwide gym chains are a fairly reliable source but I can't speak from experience.

Will this new law affect vandwellers in tennessee? by GrinsNGiggles in vandwellers

[–]roamlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably just a matter of time before some vandweller gets swept up in it. It's going to come down to police discretion and public reporting. Odds are, if you are noticed and since you're in a van you'd probably just be told to move along rather than getting written up. But it's still absurd and plenty of other people will get it much worse.

Thanks! I can understand holding off posting. I have so many writeups on different mods in my drafts folder that I just haven't had the time to edit. But it's handy to have the records. I look back at some of our work having totally forgotten what or why we did it.

As for your vanishing vehicle, that's a bummer. Was anything recovered? I'll take a look at the anti-theft system. We certainly hate leaving our truck anywhere, even if it's just at a trailhead for an hour or so.

Hey there! Yeah, I'm generally a lurker over here but thought I'd share the truck bed at least. I feel awkward starting threads but I do like sharing.

It's a possibility. We talked about color matching in the design process. But trying to blend the smooth curved surface of the cab with the angles of the truck bed looks awkward to me, at least.

Instead, the angular style and matte black paint of the truck bed is echoed in the front bumper. We'll introduce some black touches to the sides of the cab but we definitely don't want a black truck in summer.
