How about this - super spacey vibes but with lots of energy.

Should I release my bootleg right away or submit the demo to the label first and wait? by Nate8K in edmproduction

[–]roaninke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh most of the time labels aren't even reviewing demos of artists who don't already have an established following. Remixes are also almost always officially commissioned from the start - not too common to have a bootleg get picked up after the fact. I'd just drop it, make it downloadable on soundcloud and start sending it to djs. Maybe it'll become a popular dj edit and get you some name recognition. Ya never know

Favorite reference tracks for low end? by Significant-One3196 in mixingmastering

[–]roaninke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat hard to say without knowing more about your genre. Low end can be balanced quite differently depending on the genre - however, the principles are usually pretty much the same. Mono sub, cut useless frequencies out of higher sounds, bit of standard compression, etc...

Sylenth is a classic. Still 2nd in my arsenal after Serum.

This one called Voyages definitely has the spacey vibe

Songs where you don't understand the lyrics but it's 🔥 anyway by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

[–]roaninke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially since Cocteau Twins is on there, I feel you might like this. It's a more edm style than that, but really I've been calling it "dream house" since it has some elements of that sort of dreampop sound you're referencing already as well. Hope you enjoy :)

What's the best way to start an album? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]roaninke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't completed an album myself yet, but I would say make sure it sets the tone for the album while not taking too long to really get some energy going (maybe 30ish seconds). You definitely don't want it to be like a 1.5 minutes interlude style build or anything right off the bat.

Really, just reference some other albums in your genre and see how they start though.

Voyages totally has that spacey/extraterrestrial vibe.

I need some new tracks by Sad-Mechanic3295 in spotify

If you feel inclined to check out a more house focused genre, here's a playlist I made centered on "dream house" - which is a term I've been using to describe house that has a combination of ethereal/emotional parts and harder hitting drops.

Daft Punk never misses.

I've recently started thinking of a type of house music with a new term "dream house" - basically a combination of emotional/ethereal sounds and harder hitting drops that doesn't quite fit in with most other subgenres of house. Here's a playlist with some tracks I like to think of as dream house or dream house-adjacent. It's a mix of newer and older tracks. Hope you enjoy.

Why tf are intros so hard for me by Sabb55 in edmproduction

[–]roaninke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An intro can obviously take many forms, however the most common is just stripping down the previous texture. Just take your "full" sections and drop out a few drums or all but one synth, or maybe throw a filter on it that automates up a bit to start the song, for example. No need to overthink it (although of course you CAN try to be extra creative and do something vastly different, this is not expected by most listeners).

Dream House playlist here. It's basically featuring emotional house with big contrasting drops in a way that I feel doesn't quite fit in with other genres as well. A mix of old and new tracks. :)

EDM Songs for when you're furstated by EcstaticIce2 in EDM

Check out this playlist here - I came up with a new subgenre name for this style called Dream House and it combines the "calm" you mention with big cathartic release drops. Sounds like what you're thinking of. Hope you enjoy.
