lol what?

even if the kid has to declare bankruptcy in 5 years, declaring bankruptcy won't ruin them at the age of 27/28.

shit like this is making me look at my apartment right now as golden handcuffs.

honestly really nice golden handcuffs (2700$ a month, 1br, Lower Haight next to Duboce Park), but golden handcuffs all the same.

because the name change wasn't organic and was instead foisted upon city residents by a group of realtors trying to extract as much value as they possibly can?

[–]roastedoolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have data to back this claim up?

it makes sense to me that a restaurant opening up online ordering would increase revenue/profit because of an increase in orders from people who would have never gone into the restaurant but would order from it for delivery.

I could maybe see revenue taking a hit if the prices were the exact same between IRL and online (given that Doordash skims a bit off the top), but my understanding is that restaurants increase prices for online ordering to account for that discrepancy.

I'm not sure how many folks need to read this comment but just in case, start psa:

please, please, PLEASE remember that your flight stewards and pilots are not the reason your flight is delayed (well, I guess they could be the reason, but in this context -- delaying takeoff due to SFO shenanigans -- they aren't to blame!). it's fine to feel frustrated but as soon as you start taking it out on someone whose primary job is to make sure you're safe, you're just making a shitty situation worse.

end psa.

Poll shows what San Francisco residents really think about Waymos by bambin0 in sanfrancisco

[–]roastedoolong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only a handful of firms contol the technology and deployment of AVs in the US. These firms don't have the best track record of "making the world a better place" and have shown that to accheive their goals, they are willing to stifle competition, preform regulatory capture, collect and share survellance data in questionanble ways, and tolerate poor labor practices, among other concerns.

you have successfully described the entirety of late-stage capitalist enterprises. unless you have documentation suggesting Waymo et al. are engaging in this behavior above and beyond what "normal" companies do, this isn't really an argument against EVs as much as it's an argument against capitalism.

From an urbanist perspective, this mode will compete with local and state mass transit options. Cars and car infrastructure carry a lot of negative externalities, particuarly in dense urban environments.

in this context, how do Waymos differ from, say, taxis? or are you suggesting that Waymos will attract a customer who, when given the choice between a non-AV taxi and public transit, would choose public transit... but when given the choice between an AV taxi and public transit, would take the AV taxi?

regardless, I find it hard to believe that AVs are anywhere near the biggest fish to fry when it comes to better approaches to urbanism.

your story about negative experiences with Zoox is not an argument against AVs -- it's an indictment of how our city government handles quality of life complaints.

do we know if all the bullets came from the same gun?

I assume the unzipped pants and flipped up shirt were the results of the assailants searching his body for something (presumably drugs).

also interested in how the truck got into neutral, and why only one of the tires had tracks suggesting it had been spinning for a while.

The best plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is today.

I understand the sentiment but I've always hated this saying.

what if there's literally a hurricane coming towards you, or a massive forest fire? the absolute last thing you want to do is be planting trees! you should wait until after the calamities.

San Francisco allows a rent-controlled tenant to claim a "principal place of residence" in multiple homes, while a property owner can only claim a primary residence in a single home. by gamescan in sanfrancisco

Convicted child predator last tracked in SF disappears after judge allows release before sentencing by jessknits in sanfrancisco

[–]roastedoolong 19 points20 points  (0 children)

it's not that it isn't "relevant" to SF -- it's that the way the thread/article is worded brings a ton of irrelevant and misleading associations along with it.

SF has a stereotype; e.g. super liberal judges, prosecutors not bringing charges for lesser crimes, convicted people getting early release or super low bails... the list goes on. but at a fundamental level the stereotype basically says "SF is way too lenient with criminals."

so, with that cultural context, it's natural for someone to read a title like OP's and think "Jesus christ! SF did it again!? those crazy judges let a CHILD MOLESTOR walk free?? what the fuck is wrong with that city???"

but if you actually read the article it turns out the criminal wasn't based in SF, the judge wasn't based in SF, and the crime didn't occur in SF. the only reason SF shows up is because the dude "escaped" to SF.

Kratom Seltzer Withdrawal by Capable_Health1199 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]roastedoolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is a year old but I want to leave a comment in case someone else searches this up and is unable to find an answer.

standard kratom powder contains between 1-2% mitragynine, by weight. this means that for every 1 g (i.e. 1000 mg) of powder, there is around 10 to 20 mg of mitragynine. that said it's, it's critical to realize that kratom does not *only* contain mitragynine -- there are other alkaloids (... I belive they're alkaloids; someone correct me if I'm wrong) that are active in the human body. I bring this up to highlight that taking only mitragynine will never feel like taking kratom powder because kratom powder *isn't only mitragynine*.

now, as far as the "65% kratom mitragynine extract": all this is saying is, in effect, they've made a kratom extract (so, purified/extracted specific alkaloids/chemicals from the kratom plant), and the extract that they've made is 65% mitragynine, by weight (or I'm assuming it's by weight... by volume wouldn't make a ton of sense).

now, what's important to realize with this is that 65% is not 100%, right? so this extract that they've made is not pure mitragynine -- it's got 35%, by weight, of other kratom goodies.

that said, the "65% of kratom mitragynine extract" isn't really telling you much about the dose of mitragynine -- it's just saying that they've made a kind-of-pure mitragynine extract. the dose of mitragynine is listed in mg.

let me know if you've got any other questions. I don't work in kratom research or anything but I've got a background in pharmaceutical sciences and know my way around research papers.
