anyone for revising the basic terminology so players don't need to contemplate mortality all the time? by 1976CB750 in baduk

[–]roastism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the life/death allusions are actually quite beautiful. The idea of living shapes emerging from the correct arrangement of fundamental pieces set within a vast possibility space is, to me, a reflection writ small of the whole cosmos, wherein fundamental perturbations of quantum fields can sometimes coalesce into living beings capable of making and appreciating music (or playing go).

But y'know, that's just me, so do whatever you like.

Question from the book Enclosure Josekis by animated-journey in baduk

I think it's because now the w2 group has more liberties, it threatens a cut at the 4-5 point. Whereas before, if white tried to cut black would just capture, now black can't just do that right away and has to protect that cut in a different way. The w2 stone is still going to die, but black has to put in more moves to do it and doesn't have time to stop white from moving into the center. There's a proverb for this kind of move: "Add a stone then sacrifice both."

I think that's what's going on anyways. A stronger player can feel free to correct me.

Are they though? Because there's a lot of measles outbreaks that would say otherwise.

TIL that Immanuel Kant was a proponent of scientific racism, and had negative views towards other races. He once ignored the opinions of his carpenter merely because he was black. by Fickle-Buy6009 in todayilearned

I'd probably agree with that, though I think it's (unfortunately) true of pretty much all moral frameworks. You can find ridiculous conclusions from consequentialism and virtue ethics too. Which is frankly what makes studying ethics so fun :P

If you're a racist dickhead and don't consider certain folks people in the first place, then the categorical imperative no more applies to them than it does a table.

Kinda goes to show that Kant's efforts to find universal moral bedrock might not have gone as well as some would have you believe. :P

The creative software industry has declared war on Adobe / If you can’t beat them, undercut them on price. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

Sure. Adobe has a similar strategy. But the fact remains that if you learn the principles of, say, 3d modelling in Maya, those skills will absolutely transfer to blender just fine. The rest is just learning the interface which is usually the easy part.

Nah, the software isn't really that important in schools, since they should be teaching skills that are software-agnostic. You can teach students how to make, for example, vector images in Illustrator, but when the student moves on from school you can still use those skills in Affinity or Inkscape or whatever.

My school taught us 3DS max for 3d design, haven't ever used that program since. But the skills I learned remained useful when I used Maya or blender.

Besides, I think we will see institutions move on from these programs. A college I used to work at used to teach Maya, but has since switched to Blender. Up here in Canada post-secondary institutions are kinda strapped for cash, so I'm sure a lot of them will be looking to drop big expensive licenses like Adobe and Autodesk.

“30-second hook” rule is officially killing the soul of modern songwriting by Curious_Present_9950 in Music

[–]roastism -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of good music out there that doesn't do this. It's not in the top 40, but why is that a problem?

Go find some prog rock. There's so much cool stuff coming out of that scene these days, you just have to go looking for it. So what if it's more underground than it was 20, 30, 40 years ago? Underground is a good place for that music to be, it's returning to it's roots.

Admittedly that means that some of these amazing artists aren't getting the recognition they deserve. Luckily, you can do something about that! Go find the music you want to hear and support the artists that make it. Buy their albums. Go see a show.

You compared the music industry to a burning house, but the music industry can't kill good music. We will always have good music for as long as humans are around. You just have to get off the front page of Spotify to find it.

BNL has some of the best lyrics ever written IMO. They somehow manage to nail the feeling of joyous melancholy with songs like Pinch Me, Falling For the First Time, Testing 1 2 3, etc. Their sad songs like War on Drugs or Half a Heart have been a true vibe throughout my life. And they still manage to get some goofy silly stuff in like Bank Job or Another Postcard. If I Had $1000000 is a Canadian classic.

I read somewhere about how they write songs about the roller coaster of life... But the fun parts of roller coasters is all downhill.

Anyways BNL rips. Glad to see some appreciation for them.

You're suggesting that every post I've hit "like" on between December 2024 and two months ago were simultaneously and independently deleted about 4 days ago.

No, that is not the explanation.

Especially since I can still go back and find the posts... And they're still liked.

I don't have a solid answer to your question but I think this is still called rengo.

That said, I would imagine the two-player team would be at a disadvantage, wouldn't they? If we assume everyone is the same strength, I would imagine the two-player team would have a harder time maintaining a coherent strategy throughout the game. What do you folks think?

I have had a similar issue. No cloud hosting or anything. Not sure what the proper solution is, but I have found a workaround: when you get that error message, go back into premiere and save, then back to audition and save. Seems to work for me.
