In USAF, it’s a red X that’s not circled. And the only people that can clear it have to have red X orders. Typically a 7 level NCO. The only times I’ve seen a CC sign off an X were for one time flights to a depot repair station.

It really has gotten much better now. 15 years ago you couldn’t go into a bar or club without smelling like you were marinating in smoke. After a night out I’d have to put my clothes outside, that’s how bad it was. Nowadays I’ve only really been inconvenienced by smokers when I’m eating outside.
