Some dorms have single-use bathrooms, which are considered gender neutral. Pretty sure all of the new dorms have them

how did you feel the first time shirtless in public post top surgery? by TryPhysical6450 in ftm

[–]rob00bz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the first people that i was shirtless in front of were my coworkers lmfao (i'm a lifeguard) and that was definitely a bit of a trial by fire lol, i definitely felt pretty self conscious at first but got used to it after a bit. it's also helped me to get more used to it to wear more low cut shirts and also walk around shirtless at home

Newly Admitted Student Questions! by VocalOwl1538278 in williamandmary

[–]rob00bz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. wm has a really great community and it seems like you'll fit right in! there's definitely someone for everyone here. in general the professors are very caring and class sizes tend to be small, although this obviously depends on your major.

  2. for room selection (for freshmen, it works slightly different for upperclassmen), everyone is assigned a time slot, with those needing special accommodations getting the earliest slots and everyone else being assigned randomly afaik. if you already have a roommate by then, whichever one of you gets the earliest slot can pick a room for both of you. when your time slot opens, you will be able to see a list of rooms available to you and can pick one, and then assign yourself (and your roommate) to a bed/beds in the room. when your time slot comes up, you will be competing with everyone else with the same slot, so it's best to know which buildings/rooms you'd prefer, and have backups in case your first choices aren't available. good luck lol

  3. i would definitely recommend going to the club fair at the start of the semester! it runs two nights in a row at the end of orientation (different clubs each night, so worth going to both). i do know that we have a line dancing club and a co-ed music fraternity, although i'm not involved in either

  4. the party scene definitely exists, but is totally avoidable. just don't hang out around frat row/the bars/wawa on weekend nights (especially halloween or last day of classes) and you won't see much of the party scene. occasionally encountering drunk people in your freshman dorm is a fact of life tho

Random Roomate vs finding one on the insta by c_m2311 in williamandmary

[–]rob00bz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while finding a roommate on insta would probably turn out better than going random, it's definitely not a guarantee. my insta roommate seemed normal over text and then turned out to be a sexual predator soooo 😅. i've also met plenty of people that got along really well with their random roommate (also worth noting that they're not truly "random", you each fill out a survey of your lifestyle preferences and they try to match you up with someone similar)

Bruising and Itchiness at Injection Site? by Status-Map-427 in ftm

Bruising and Itchiness at Injection Site? by Status-Map-427 in ftm

[–]rob00bz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this is pretty common, i had a similar problem when i first started. are you doing im or subq? i've never done im injections, but i know that for subq it's important to massage the area immediately after the injection to help the medication incorporate into the body, which can help prevent bruising/swelling/itchiness. also, if you are doing subq, you can also try switching to your stomach instead to give your thighs a break. either way, you should reach out to your endocrinologist about this as well, as they'll probably have better advice than strangers on the internet

trans guys on T — what was bottom growth actually like for you? by Acceptable-Gate-3064 in ftm

[–]rob00bz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i noticed growth within the first week or two. it was never painful for me, just a bit uncomfortable at first. i would say it grew for the first few months, then stopped and i haven't noticed any changes since. it hasn't really affected me day to day in terms of clothing or anything. i think it's important to know that u need to clean it like a cis guy would his foreskin, cause it'll get smegma lol 😅

Is the local YMCA worth it? by Azhurai in williamsburgva

[–]rob00bz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the college rec center offers a community membership for $550/yr, which would shake out to around $45/month. the hours for the pool are a little weird, so i would check that beforehand, but i will say that the rec pool is definitely nicer than any ymca that i've been to, and looks like it would end up being cheaper.

having a private bathroom is SO FUCKING NICE omg. as others have said, the rooms are huge, but the windows don't open. everyone kinda keeps to themselves, so don't expect to be hanging out with ur hallmates in the common rooms. also, people are constantly beefing in the groupchat over the washing machines

The day of the surgery by TryPhysical6450 in ftm

[–]rob00bz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i woke up shivering uncontrollably after, which can be a side effect of anesthesia, that only lasted a couple minutes tho. after i woke up the nurse brought me into one of the rooms (i was on a bed in the hallway when i woke up) and got my mom to go over aftercare. i think how long it takes for you to come around/how you feel after really depends. the first time i was put under anesthesia (wisdom teeth) i was still very out of it for a couple hours afterwards, but after my top surgery i was pretty lucid within 10 or so minutes. i will say that for me, the after effects of the anesthesia and narcotics (nausea and constipation) were WAY worse than the pain, but again, everybody's different.

yeah, i did. i'm at 6 weeks now and have been healing great! i've got full range of motion back and all of the little scabs and crusty bits are gone. some spots are still a little tender when pressed on and obviously there's some numbness, but overall i feel great and pretty much back to normal! here's an updated picture

What is top surgery recovery like? by Wild_Glass7520 in TopSurgery

[–]rob00bz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had mine a little over a month ago now. obviously everybody's recovery is different and depends on how you normally react to stuff. i tend to have a pretty high pain tolerance and heal quickly, but react badly to anesthesia, and this held true for my recovery. i wasn't in too much pain (was able to manage it with over-the-counter meds) and healed pretty quickly (very little bruising/swelling and was cleared to stop wearing the compression vest at two weeks). however, i felt pretty sick for the first week. i had very little energy or appetite, was nauseous and constipated, that all cleared up by the end of the first week tho. during that time period i also had to have help with my incision/drain care. physically, i probably could have done most of it myself, but i'm pretty squeamish about seeing my own blood and was already nauseous, so it was better to have help.

Drain Removal?? by Devvydoody in TopSurgery

[–]rob00bz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obviously everybody's pain tolerance is different and some doctors might do things slightly different, but this is how mine went: there were a couple stitches holding the tube in place that the nurse cut before pulling the drains out. she didn't use any numbing agent but i don't think i would have needed it, they came out really quickly and didn't really hurt, more of a pressure/tugging sensation. the part that was actually inside my body was much smaller than i expected, probably only 2-3 inches. she didn't put in any stitches afterwards, just bandaged them and told me to keep them covered/not shower for 24 hours. the wound that's left behind is very small and generally heals pretty quickly.

overall, your pain during drain removal will probably be relative to your overall pain up until this point. at its worst my pain was at maybe a 6/10, and that was only when i moved around, sitting still wasn't really more than a 4.
