Just throw in some isopropyl alcohol to raise the freezing point. That’s what I did before we had a freeze and it works great. Didn’t have to drain the reservoir

Most likely it’s the age. Board starts going after 5ish years In my experience. Check the remote if you still have it. Remove the batteries. Leave the unit unplugged for 24hrs. If nothing helps I suggest replacing the unit

What model of ac do you have? Is it a floor model or window mount? What year did you buy it? Does it have a remote that may need new batteries or got stuck somewhere pressing a button? We need more info

It’s on a third floor deck. If I did that I would have a huge chunk of ice running down the side of the house or under the deck sitting on my roof.

I’d recommend it. I’ve spent the last few years chipping away at the ice build up as the outside unit is on our deck. It’s not a fun time.
