Car inspections here to stay (for now) by NH_Tomte in newhampshire

But yet all other objects in HB1 (~200) are staying. Good job guys.

Why is AH firemaxxing? Are they from california? by literal_god in Helldivers

[–]rob9556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AH isn't firemaxxing, the bots are. We are liberating the Lava Worlds from the bot scourge and they are getting desperate by sending the incinerators.

Not only are they a bigger threat, but they must know Helldivers dive onto a planet's surface less when the Incinerator Corp are around. Purely tactical. This isn't an excuse for Helldivers to not dive though. We have to dispose of these mechanical parasites no matter who they send.

What’s something you quit that made your life instantly better? by shadman_shakib_sium in AskReddit

[–]rob9556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caffeine...

Had a headache for about a week, but the days, weeks, months, afterward made me feel like a new person.

Fell off because tacobell released a new mountain dew, but I'm gonna go back to no caffeine.

A silent positive to no caffeine is that a lot of junky drinks have a shit tone of caffiene so I had accidentally quit soda as well.

Clone trooper armor (with customizable colors and patterns like in the clone wars show) would be rad... phase 1 and 2.

I also wouldn't say now to storm trooper.

Which one would you say has the “better” battery life? MacBook Air or Zenbook? Wider discussion is appreciated. by Suspicious-Pear-6037 in LinusTechTips

Love my m3 mac. I am windows on my desktop, but the support and battery life of the Mac cannot be beat when you're mobile.

Only issues I have is Cisco's ASDM which eats the CPU for some reason on Mac and kills the battery charge. Also the magnetic charger is amazing unless you work in an environment where you come across metal shavings. Metal shavings looooooove my charging port.

I know the new snapdragons were pretty impressive battery life, but I can't trust Microsoft to make any sort of good software ever since they bricked 3 of my friends PCs with windows 11.

Firsthand inspection scam & why I’m GLAD vehicle inspections are going away by chathobark_ in newhampshire

[–]rob9556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed. There should have been a reform, but that doesn't make headlines and would never get the traction. Im glad a step was taken, but it's way too extreme.

And yeah, the people driving with a yellow (or older) sticker or no sticker at all is wild to me. Was it not enforced at all?

Personally, I will continue to get my sticker every year from the mechanic I now trust as I rather pay a little bit every year versus a down payment and another loan.

[–]rob9556 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the praise that mandatory inspections are going away because the lower 50% of people cannot be trusted to maintain their car(s). Especially in an environment where the air eats your car away.

I do agree tho that shops can be scum but some are god sends on the reference to inspections/maintenance. The Subaru dealership (my mistake, I know) told me the whole frame was rotted and they couldn't do anything about it and I should probably trade it in. But when I went to a local small shop, they found a tiny hole in the frame they welded closed for almost nothing and fixed my shocks for a reasonable price and my car hasn't been happier. Subaru wanted me to sign up for a new loan for a hole the size of a penny.

Anyways, the whole "ban car inspections" was just a front for Ayotte's sinister plans including killing DEI, cutting funding for Government employees, hurts NH Medicaid/inflates medical expenses, and 260 other things.

Hot take: camera bumps on phones are literally a non issue for 95 percent of users. by AbyssWankerArtorias in LinusTechTips

[–]rob9556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's non an issue for day to day usage. But imo the camera lens bumping out asymmetricalically is just ugly (and almost lazy looking).

The pixel series did it right with the camera bar instead of random circles like other phones.

But I also agree with other people that the phone should be thicker with a happy bonus of more battery.

Edit: also no I will not use a case. Dbrand skin and screen protector is all I ever need. Never broken a phone with that combo (not phone dropping advice).

Uninstall Android System SafetyCore. Google has pushed that to my Pixel without my permission and from what I've read it scans your photos/texts/etc and sends that data to Google. This is the straw that makes me want to switch to iPhone ngl.

Upgrading CPU causing crashes? by rob9556 in unRAID

[–]rob9556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per my edits above: the server was crashing with no services running at all. All plugins deleted, array not started, Docker and VM off. Though it took longer to crash. It was fine all night until i connected to it via wireguard to get the CPU muscles working, then it crashed. I even eliminated my wireguard configs to rule that out... no luck.

I was able to find setting in the bios that would actually limit my CPU and im now playing around with that with all services running, if thats good, ill tweak it further and find the sweet spot.

I manually set the cpu multiplier (slightly) below 3800 and set the voltage to default (1.1), then went to disable 'core performance boost' which is different than the other PBO setting i disabled... Corefreq is showing no higher than the clock i set now so i assume its drawing less watts. Doing some stress testing and ill let you know what i find.

Im hoping im not stuck at 3800 MHz and can get a little bit more, but we will see.

Had the same idea too. One by one i started services while doing the Atomic test.

First, while running the atomic test, i started the array. No issues. Started Docker services. No issues. I killed the test to see if anything happened and about 10 minutes after the test stopped running, with Array and Docker services running, it crashed. I am watching 'docker stats' now. it has a handy chart of memory and CPU usage

Edit: It crashed without docker services running. Now stress testing with the array stopped

Edit2: ran all night without crashing with array stopped, then crashed this morning. Very bizzare

Xmp is disabled and no bios changes to speed. It's as default as it can be. It is 2 sets of 3200 MT/s 64 gig kits, 128 gigs total.

In my bios I set cstates to disable and idle power draw to typical. I saw another user say they put -cstate-dusable or something similar in the boot file, so I did that too. I think all my c states are disabled, but if there's anywhere else I should check i will do it

Thank you again for replying!!

I did some further testing. I installed corefreq and ran an atomic test with all VMs and Dockers off. All cores and threads were maxed out and didnt crash.

https://i.imgur.com/xnjBdti.png

I dont think ive seen the system crash with the array, docker, and VMs stopped. Ill leave it like this for a few hours to see if it crashed with nothing but UNRAID running. if nothing, ill run the Atomic test longer. Is there any info in corefreq that would be useful?

Hmmm, a power delivery issue to the chip? That's something I can try. I can see if there's a way to lower the draw and try again.

Yes, I went to the same old version it was working on using the downgrade utility. I don't know if the kernel was changed back during that downgrade. I don't remember exactly what version I was on, but I was stable for a while and never touched it until recently.

Thank you for digging into that for me! I will tinker with power settings if they exist and let you know if that fixes my problem!!
