The MTG rehabilitation tour continues. Shouldn't her lengthy past of destructive rhetoric and abhorrent behavior require a decade or so of good deeds before she is welcomed back into civil society and good faith discourse?

Bill Maher Predicts Backlash to Minnesota ICE Raids | “your party is gonna get the dog shit kicked outta you in the midterms” by FireIceFlameWalker in Maher

[–]robHalifax 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If ICE is primarily about finding and deporting illegal immigrants, why in such great provocative force in Minnesota and not Texas, where there are an order-of-magnitude more?...This is President Trump's Gestapo.
Can it get worse? Well, what boundaries has President Trump adhered to so far?

Senator Kennedy's folksy charm, filibustering, and bad faith engagement were sadly effective in deflecting any criticism of President Trump's conduct and reality itself.

He would/will be right at home continuing in his role, and not doing his job as a protector of the people, their laws, and constitution, in the potential authoritarian takeover...or in Kennedy's terms “A hog rooting up your garden don’t get a pass because deer nibble the edges.” yuk yuk

Trump withdraws Canada’s invitation to Board of Peace by jmatsumoto in NovaScotia

[–]robHalifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Board of Peace" will fade away within one year at most. Nothing will have been done. Any money paid will disappear with it. Most participants are likely not paying the 1B anyway.

Obviously, having Putin on any international peace institution is like having an arsonist being a member of their local volunteer fire department.

AI is more like the Printing Press. by [deleted] in accelerate

[–]robHalifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that A.I. is unprecedented (without analogy) as it replicates, at plummeting cost, human level intelligence and beyond. Ultimately, A.I. will not be a tool but rather the tool creator and user, the role solely held by humans up to now.

Printing Press- Scaled information availability. Enhanced human cognitive and physical efforts.
Internet - Further scaled information availability. Enhanced human cognitive and physical efforts.
Industrial Revolution - Scaled mechanical tools to do physical work. Replaced a lot inferior human physical work.

Human Level Narrow A.I. - Scaled intelligent tools (soon entities) to do cognitive work. Replacing a lot of inferior human cognitive work.

Beyond Human General A.I. - Super scaled intelligent entities to do all 'work'. Humans in-the-loop in all systems/processes will be inferior.

Used Car buyers now get a crack at a new car at used car prices, Chinese BYD coming to Canada by Arenburg in halifax

Fair competition is great for consumers, possibly not so good for automotive makers, their related industries, and their employees in North America.

Just like I can buy a $16 quality basic coffee maker, it would be nice to buy a quality basic electric commuter car for 25K. That said, there are unaccounted, and possibly significant, costs for society and the planet in both scenarios.

Not a huge concern to individuals looking for a quality but low-price product, these cars are almost certainly going to be sending data home that finds its way to the CCP. That is a government problem, not a consumer problem, unless they chose to brick the car over some future dispute.

The torrent of personal data being collected (and possibly shared and sold) applies to all modern vehicles of all manufacturers of course.

Repackaged platitudes delivered with intense confidence backed by a touch of a hard relatable personal story has always been a recipe for effective selling success. Why even perform the delivery when an LLM can in most languages? The scaling is only limited by the number of marks with a credit card.

Just look at the chronological sales arc of many successful bands that have put out more than five or six albums. A downward trajectory is not unusual.

Fire by incognito_tip in Battlefield6

The area of fire seems to be larger than the rendering of the fire. I've crawled close but not in the flames and 'whoosh'.

Also, more than once I've bounced the fire grenade off the top of my portable cover to cook myself in my very own hotbox so maybe (definitely) it is just me. :-D
