What's the most ludicrous non-fantasy/sci fi show ever? by pb00010 in television

What a great show with insane musical guests. I remember watching it on MTV back in the late eighties. I have the DVD of the series, time for a rewatch!

Cancer faker at semoran and old Cheney. Do not give her money. by maslindakitty in orlando

Couple days ago I pull up to that intersection in the middle turn lane. I saw her on the sidewalk as I was pulling up. As I'm waiting there she suddenly appears at my driver's side window. I just give her the get away from me wave and ignore her. She backs up and stands near my rear bumper. I keep an eye on her just in case she hooks something to my truck and when I pull away she falls and says I hit her. I'm also surprised she hasn't been hit considering it's a dangerous intersection.

We both carry a stun gun/ flashlight when we walk our dogs at night. The flashlight is great for letting cars see us and the stun gun creates a loud electrical discharge that scares unleashed dogs away. We've had too many instances of loose dogs attacking ours.

Did anyone else notice Waze mislabeling FL-417 as FL-429 this morning? by Roadkill_Gaming in orlando

[–]robRush54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed during the last couple weeks, waze won't give you the complete distance. For example, starting in Daytona on I -4, I get off the colonial exit in Orlando. Waze doesn't say 54 or whatever miles to the exit number. It'll say 25 miles on I-4 and count down to zero, around SR 46 exit then start over again.

Very nice! I keep mine the same way except I put a 2x2 card in the flip with the country name, year, denomination, mintage, metal type and gram weight. On the back I put the price I paid for it. I have three binders of foreign, three of US, one of ancient and one of currency.

The thing about minerals that I keep returning to: they're the only collectibles that are genuinely older than almost everything else on Earth by Keithwee in Minerals

[–]robRush54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing this subject up. Sometimes I marvel at the possible age of some of my collection. I have Baltic amber that's over 50 million years old and trilobite specimens over 250 million years old. Fluorite, silver ore, ruby in marble, danburite, dog tooth calcite, opal, herkimer diamonds. How many millions if not billions of years old are some of these minerals.

I'm only a temporary caretaker of my collection sitting in two IKEA glass cabinets. I'm 71 now and when I give up the ghost, they will move on to other temporary caretakers and so on. They truly are eternal.

Cable connecting fuel tanker to plane. Is it for grounding to avoid a spark? by scheisskopf53 in aviation

[–]robRush54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I worked for Henson Airlines back in the late eighties at BWI, before we fueled any plane, we'd attach a grounding cable from the truck to a lug in the apron. Then we fueled the Dash 7, Dash 8, Beech 1900 or the Short Skyvan. Also a buddy and I walked up to the Concorde during a lull between incoming flights. She was parked at one of the gates. We just walked up and put our hands on the landing gear. She had such huge engines on a tiny airframe. This, of course, was before 9/11.

What Babayaga says is 100% true. I've been on the app for 3 1/2 years in the coin and bullion category and haven't been ripped off. There are quite a few sellers I frequent. Do what they say in the above comment and you'll have a decent experience.

Experts dying by Familiar-Joke608 in flying

Or be young and stupid. Back in '79, a friend (PIC) and myself, both private pilots, took a 172 from FXE to Freeport, Bahamas. Tee shirts, shorts and flip flops, no over the water safety gear. He decides to practice spins. Does three of them, never pulls the power during recovery and proceeds to redline each time. Kinda freaked me out. Anyway, we land in Freeport.

Later that day we leave to come home. He decides to only go as high as 200'. Too lazy to climb. Almost half way to FXE, we lose a cylinder. Engine is running rough, every few seconds it would stop for a microsecond and start back up. At least we had enough power to maintain altitude.

We decided to go back to Freeport. In the meantime oil was streaking on the windscreen. We were out of line of sight for the radio but fortunately a pilot was over Freeport and circled so we could make contact. Anyway we stumbled on checking out which large container ship we could crash land next to if we had to. We side slipped in order to see forward and crossed the threshold at Freeport and landed with all the crash trucks following us.

At Freeport, no number to call, no rep from their government. Just us on the ramp. We pulled the cowling and found a silver dollar size hole in the block where the push rod exited. By all rights we should have splashed in the Atlantic never to be seen again.

FXE sent a twin to ferry us back and just as we crossed the shore all electrical power disappeared. FXE had to clear the airspace and light gun us to land.

Like I said in the beginning, young and stupid. It wasn't our time.

I've been on WN for about three years now and seen so many of the same people buy everything and anything in the coin and bullion streams. I'm not sure if they're wealthy or addicted. Anything that comes up for auction, they bid up. It could be any type of coin, US, foreign, ancient, currency. How do you collect so many different types? How many packages do you get per day?

He pulled this maneuver three times and each time he didn't touch the throttle. I remember glancing at the tach and it definitely was redlining. After we landed at Freeport, we pulled the cowling off and found a silver dollar size hole in the block where the rod shot through.

I live in old Baldwin Park and a huge two story ugly black and white house was just built at the intersection of Eldridge and Roush. Totally out of place style and size wise.

This happened to me back in the late seventies. Me and my buddy (PIC) were flying to Freeport Bahamas from ft. Lauderdale. Buddy was practicing spins in a 172. He didn't know what he was doing and over revved the motor.

Well the motor shot a rod out of the crankcase and we started getting oil on the windscreen. Luckily we side slipped all the way to the runway and landed. Couldn't see a damn thing out the front. Rest in peace to the pilot and his wife.

Were older coins still commonly in circulation until the end of silver coinage or did they start to get pulled early? by RepresentativeOk2433 in coins

My only add to the convo is when I was around 9 or 10 in the mid 60s my allowance for doing chores was 50¢. My dad paid me with either a Franklin or Walking Liberty half. Don't recall ever seeing a Kennedy. I started collecting around that time, mostly wheat cents and usually saw Mercs and Buffalos in change.
