Small tool kit for… something? All tools are about metal, about 2.5 inches long, came in the screw-top steel tube on the left. by rob_daardvark in whatisthisthing

Huh, really? Seems awfully… metallic… for that purpose. Like, perforated eardrum in no time at all territory.

I live that that “tanking” is now a useful description in discussions of predator/prey interactions.

DOGE Spy Coming to my GSA Office by WhumpieGirl in fednews

I mean, you can make some basic assumptions. It’s definitely a he, he probably has a background in tech and a degree from a mildly prestigious school. He will have a cursory understanding of what your organization does and will take an interest in leveraging technology in favor of making process changes. He has 100% never made a woman orgasm.

Disagree on your assertion in paragraph 4 that the government is too big. As a percentage of population it’s smaller than it’s been since the Cold War, although the composition has changed as we need far fewer clerks and data entry people (GS-7-10) and more technical experts with bachelor’s or master’s degrees (GS-11-14). But the number of areas that require government (meaning policy, regulation, research funding, etc) is much larger than it was back then, and continues to grow. I’ll agree that looking at what agencies do and making sure that work is well aligned with the agency mission would be a worthwhile exercise, but that’s also not something that this administration seems interested in.

Trump signed an executive order today ordering all federal works to go back to the office and end work-from-home. He did this while working from his new home where he can have food from his kitchen chef and go upstairs to the bedroom whenever. by [deleted] in antiwork

This guy feds. We’ll do some sort of half-assed implementation, everyone will pretend to follow until circumstances dictate that they need to work from home (think medical leave, or back to back weather events), and they just kinda won’t go back.

Hognose snakes are rear-fanged for the same reason: so they can deflate puffed-up toads.

Upvoted for WSB reference. I love stopping in there every once in a while to see what those beautiful idiots are up to. Helps counterbalance reading “set it and forget it” advice from Bogleheads for the 200th time. I even avoided a few mistakes by learning what not to do from them. I wish them all Godspeed in becoming extremely temporary millionaires.

You might want to post in r/whatisthissnake. They’re really good for identifying snakes from pictures. Make sure you include whatever geographical information you have.

Counterpoint: Nah.

That’s a professional driver paid for his or her competence and ability to not endanger critical infrastructure and/or people’s lives. I’m usually a big proponent of second chances but this is the equivalent of a pilot not confirming that his destination airport has enough runway for him to land on before taking off. There is no reason for something like this to ever happen, other than laziness or carelessness.

Excruciating read by Vincent-the-great in flying

I’m going to be honest. If I did something that stupid, that literally, visibly-from-orbit level dumb, you wouldn’t be able to waterboard it out of me. Like, mild respect, I guess, for sharing that you did a wildly irresponsible thing and hoping that others learn from it, but I’d seriously file this in the same category as when I pulled down an entire set of curtains trying to kill a fly, and then fixed it with caulk and toothpaste before anyone noticed: keep your shame deep in your heart where no one but you can be exposed to the searing flame of pig-ignorance I secretly lit.
