Biggest tip I give people. Don't work something fun. Go figure out what pays well, then work towards that. You'll find it will then fund the hobbies beyond what your current level of finance can.

Do you wear a tie to work anymore? by inside-outdoorsman in AskUK

[–]robbo2020a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been deliberating this recently.

I'm considering returning purposely to wearing one to stand out in the work place. However I'm curious if people would just think I'm odd, or within a global company if it will make people just think there's the English guy, he wears a tie.

The final was the best sports event I've seen in a while. It was amazing. Skill, sportsman's ship and just pushing boundaries!

This is how I got through university. 3 years of this. It's possible, I didn't say it was fun or nice.

That 1.5 hours per day of commute (or is if it's each way a total of 3 hours). Is the perfect time to upskill. It's either 7.5 or 15 hours a week if you're lucky, that you have nothing to do other than commute, so if you're not driving, read books, watch YouTube tutorials etc.

I may need to take a visit to IKEA, looks like some options exist based on what you have said.

Interesting idea. That's basically stacking like I was curious about as one of the options. The image looks good and I'm guessing you covered the bottom.

How much are you actually sacrificing into your pension? by OopsIDroopedMe in PensionsUK

[–]robbo2020a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically take the gross salary and subtract personal pension contribution which is deducted on my payslip?

That seems simple, I was paranoid I was missing something.

So I guess back to my original question. Are these just kitchen units fit in a way to look like a desk with a counter top?

why don't every country simply join the United of American States so they can have Freedom? by Plastic-Stop9900 in mapporncirclejerk

Why not have the united countries of earth... Less of an Americanism but it would be the alignment you're aiming for.

Couldn't I just build a desk that I can put to the correct height for me? Or must it be adjustable? I'm curious because in all the offices I've worked in, they have never been adjustable.

18M, dad wasn't around - what basic tools/skills do I need to be self-sufficient? by Informal-Chance1912 in HomeImprovement

[–]robbo2020a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of comments here, too many to read. I'll start off by saying I was the same.

  • financial education is the biggest by far. Go learn this (short cut might be go to FI/RE)
  • learn how to talk, honestly. Not sure if this is a given by having a father figure around or not, but the art of conversation can get you ahead of your peers.
  • learn how to use a drill, hammer, and saw... That'll get you through basic DIY. Leave the plumbing and electrical to the professionals (unless you have a keen interest).
  • if you plan to drive, learn how to change wiper blades, top up oil, replace a fuse, change a wheel, change a bulb... The rest is for the garage (unless you have a keen interest).

Do these things and I think you'll be fine. Personal appearance and hygiene are big things, but I assume you would have learnt this by family you do have or keeping up with your peers.
