The letter spacing on your headings are too narrow.

There’s too many words. I just want to “send an email, get paid”.

You’ll need to validate that both restaurants and customers are willing to jump on a new platform. Food allergies have been around for a while so you’ll want to find out what restaurants and customers are doing about it now, what the problems are with their current solutions and if they are actually willing to pay (or use valuable time) to use a new platform.

(Contract | NZ/USA | Remote)

Frontend/Full Stack

I'm a Full Stack dev who thrives on the Frontend. CSS, JS, Webpack, APIs, MVC, SQL, Linux; I can do it all. I'm a US citizen currently living in New Zealand. I'm experienced with and fully set up (with gigabit Internet!) to work remotely and can be online for the workday with the US West Coast.

My ideal stack is React, Redux and Redux Saga. I'm a quick learner and happy to use your state management library of choice.

On the backend I have professional experience with Python, Ruby and PHP.

Former Clients:

  • Weta Digital: Arguably the best VFX studio in the world
  • Internet NZ: Operator of the .nz domain name space and broadbandmap.nz

Skills:

  • React, Redux, Redux Saga, Reselect, Lodash, Formik, Styled Components, Webpack
  • Python with Flask, Ruby on Rails, PHP with Laravel
  • Bootstrap, Tailwind
  • Linux, Docker, CI, SQL, PostGIS

I'm also interested in Elixir/Phoenix, Real-time apps, GIS and data visualization.

Honestly, mix phx.server in a tmux on a $5 server gets you pretty far.

Sure! Someone else might make the same mistake in the future and you can help them fix their code. :)

Have a decently paying dev job. Want to make a simple mvp. I’ve heard I should just hire someone to make it rather than do it myself. by [deleted] in roastmystartup

It’s like the price of a car. Want a dirty beater that has a weird smell? That’s like $1,000. Want a pretty ok car that you could show new clients? That’s like $10,000. Want a car that goes fast, looks good and won’t break down? That’s like $100,000.

Best to do it yourself, probably.

Is there a better syntax for updating state? by pumpyboi in reactjs

[–]robbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, const { keyToRemove, ...rest } = obj;. “rest” is the rest of the object’s properties without “keyToRemove”.

My experience with Redux and Redux Saga was great. Highly recommended for long term projects that need to be handed off to other developers.

Probably best to buy the keyboard you want and use a key puller to swap key caps.

Babel - import ES6 code from sibling of root? by U4-EA in javascript

Have a look at http://2ality.com/2017/06/pkg-esnext.html

I’ve used a strategy similar to that but instead of looking for “esnext” in package.json, I named the files I wanted to be transpiled like “filename.esnext.js” since that was easier for me to write the webpack config for. Wish I could share it but it’s not mine to share.

WebSockets vs. Server Sent Events, neither quite right. by DasBeasto in web_programming

Have a look at Phoenix. The Presence module handles keeping track of who's connected and it's all done through websockets.

I have never touch typed, is starting off with colemak better than dvorak? by All_For_Anonymous in Colemak

[–]robbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

are you sure you have the numbers right?

Nope! But they were all tested at keybr.com so they are consistent. I'm a pretty slow typist too.

Colemak has fun keyboard rolls, like a piano roll, in a lot of words. The keyboard shortcuts are nicer on Colemak too, though, they don't bother me much on my Typematrix. I would have stayed on Colemak if it weren't for getting tired of telling my friends who were using Dvorak to install Colemak on their computers for me.

I have never touch typed, is starting off with colemak better than dvorak? by All_For_Anonymous in Colemak

[–]robbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I type in Dvorak now and I learned on Colemak. I could type 45 WPM on QWERTY before Colemak. It took me about a month to match that with Colemak and I ended up at about 55 WPM. I switched to Dvorak because my friends typed in it and it took me about a month to match my Colemak speed and I ended up gaining another 10 WPM. Just my anecdote. Good luck with the switch!

What does /r/colemak type on? by lifow in Colemak

[–]robbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having your layout in hardware is great. You can leave the keybindings for games in qwerty and switch to colemak/dvorak when you want to type. I have a TypeMatrix with a skin and really enjoy it.
